Introducing Charlie Melrose... A Brighton based singer/songwriter whose dark soulful jazz tones are brewed with hints of rock ‘n’ roll. Influenced by passionate women such as Nina Simone, Amy Winehouse and Patti Smith, she brings her own passion, wit and honesty to the Neo-Soul movement of today but marks her own sound by blending it with a multitude of musical influences, including: soul, jazz, dub, R&B, reggae, Motown, blues, rock and pop.
Her early career saw her front punk bands such as Screama Ballerina, with whom she supported The Subways (Carodejales Festival 2013), The Buzzcocks and Rancid (Main Stage, Rebellion Festival 2012) and John Lydon championed her band. However, Charlie is not one for sticking to one thing and has always loved to try all different types of music. She’s spent years working incredibly hard on developing her voice and found her sound matured as she did. Her journey has taken her on musical escapades in the Soul/Jazz genre including a support slot for her auntie Hazel O'Connor (2013) and singing a tribute to Amy Winehouse at the Amy Film Premiere at Brighton's oldest cinema Duke of York's (2015).
Her thoughtfully crafted Debut EP 'After Midnight' will be released in November 2016. The launch party is 13.11.16 at The Brunswick, Brighton. The EP will be available for free download for those buying a ticket in advance.
