Lots of good stuff going on at The Hope and Ruin at the moment. An excellent line up from Acid Box Promotions starting with locals Mother Foot Worship followed by the brilliant Melt Dunes (go see them if you can). Next up Bristol's No Yo Se and finally And Yet It Moves, an awesome new project from Dale Barclay (ex Amazing Snakeheads). All photos © Siobhan at 16 Beasley St Photography
With a brand new, old look The Hope & Ruin is the new name for the Hope, and that’s not the only change. Just some of the improvements, include an increased capacity for gigs upstairs, a full food menu of poutine and hotdogs, an expanded range of craft beers, brewery fresh lager, and that very different new look that came from the team travelling in eastern Europe where bars are frequently cobbled together out of reclaimed spaces using anything the owners can get hold off.
The venue upstairs has become a much more practical live music space from simply moving the bar to the back of the room. That’s considerably more easily said that done, by the way. The stage is higher (and larger), the air-con more powerful, the bands bigger, the programming more dynamic.
