Nightowls' Fourth Birthday Extravaganza!

This month marks a whopping FOUR YEARS since Nightowls first built its disco nest in "The Rocking Chair", as Cafe Totem was then known. Wowee! Since then, we\'ve spent many, many happy nights empowering revellers to flail around with gay abandon. A huge thank you to every shape-thrower and Apple-Sourz-necker who has been on this beautiful journey with us! For our fourth birthday, we\'re delighted to be welcoming Sheffield legend DAN POP-O-MATIC back on the "decks". As an extra treat we might even have some party poppers and pick \'n\' mix to give to y\'all, if you\'re lucky. Coaxed out of semi-retirement once more, DAN POP-O-MATIC will play his usual mix of yacht rock, punkpop, indiepop, synthpop, poppy r\'n\'b and maybe even some pop pop. Expect Carly Rae Jepsen. And Lizzo, definitely some Lizzo. And from your regular Nightowls DJ, there will be the likes of: DESTINYS CHILD // BLONDIE // TALKING HEADS // TLC // NEUTRAL MILK HOTEL // COURTNEY BARNETT // KATE BUSH // KELIS // PRINCE // YEAH YEAH YEAHS // TAYLOR SWIFT // MISSY ELLIOTT // GRIMES // FLEETWOOD MAC // OUTKAST // ROBYN // ABBA // THAT MELODICA COVER VERSION OF THE JURASSIC PARK THEME // + LOADS MORE Free entry, good vibes, no wallies (ta).

Slipknot

In the wake of their return to the Number 1 slot on the Official UK Albums Chart with much lauded sixth studio album, We Are Not Your Kind, SLIPKNOT have announced their UK & Irish tour dates for early 2020 and will be performing at the FlyDSA Arena in Sheffield on Monday 20th January 2020 - BEHEMOTH will be their special guests. As well as taking the top album spot in the UK, SLIPKNOT, who are as much a cultural phenomenon as they are a band, made a resounding global impact, with #1 debuts in the USA, Australia, Canada, Japan, Ireland, Belgium and Finland, as well as Top 3 debuts in Germany, France, Norway, Italy, The Netherlands and New Zealand. Reviews for We Are Not Your Kind encompassed a broad media spectrum, reinforcing the innovation and creative vision of the Iowa band, twenty years into their celebrated existence. With their latest studio album, Slipknot have released one of the strongest albums in their career, remarked Consequence of Sound, with The Independent declaring, The sheer ambition of We Are Not Your Kind is just as staggering as their seminal record Iowa the dynamic might be even better. The Ringer professed, Slipknots sixth album furthers the argument that theyre the most important heavy band of their era, while Kerrang! attested, 20 years since their debut, Slipknot are as bold, fearless and exhilarating as ever. Vulture praised the LP for its maelstrom of serrated riffs, warlike drums, and machine-gun poetry from Taylor, and The NME put it simply: The \'Knot\'s sixth album is an astonishing record. We Are Not Your Kind is highlighted by Solway Firth, Birth Of The Cruel, and the LPs lead single Unsainted. All three came with an M. Shawn Crahan directed official music video, and each trended worldwide on YouTube (all categories, not just music) with Unsainted at #1 worldwide for a full 24 hrs, with the band amassing over 58 million views in just two months. Tickets for the Sheffield show go on general sale at 9am on Friday 30th August. A full breakdown of the ticket prices & fees can be found below.... 62.14 (53.50 ticket plus 8.64 venue fees) including standing & accessible tickets 50.83 (43.45 ticket plus 7.38 venue fees) 45.26 (38.50 ticket plus 6.76 venue fees) Specific show terms & conditions below:- No tickets will be issued or can be collected from the box office for this show until approximately 4 weeks prior to show. Apricot Ballroom: Space Dimension Controller [Free Entry]

Well well well, isn\'t this a little treat then. After our ridiculous joint party back in October with Marcel Vogel, we\'re teaming up with Bungalows And Bears once again to help host another dream event, where we\'ll be joined by Space Dimension Controller. If you\'re not lucky enough to have seen him before and want a taster of what he does we recommend checking out some of his mixes we\'ve linked below - such as the now infamous AVA Fest Boiler Room set. He\'s a superb talent, whether as as a live artist or as a DJ, and as always with our parties we\'ll have him playing through our rather nice audiophile sound system. And it\'s totally free entry all night. *** SPACE DIMENSION CONTROLLER *** Making music that sits somewhere in the middle of low-budget sci-fi soundtrack and introspective excursions through cosmic electronica, for us it\'s his DJing that really blows us away. Deftly weaving between all the sounds that influence and inform him as an artist, his sets are a rare treat. - Check the aforementioned AVA set here for an idea of what we mean: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eoUtjSmj_dM -Or his Dekmantel Podcast is another cracking listen: https://www.mixcloud.com/Dekmantel/dekmantel-podcast-083-space-dimension-controller-1/ Support on the night will come from the Apricot Ballroom Soundsystem residents and friends, with b2bs from: Dr Smorsli + Joi La Frique Nonna Fab + DJ Wanderlei For more info on us, our parties, and what we\'re about, head to our website at www.apricotballroom.co.uk

The Moth Gatherer (SWE) + Yuxa | Record Junkee, Sheffield.

Circle Sounds & Holy Spider Promotions Presents: The Moth Gatherer - (Stockholm, Sweden) \'The new release Esoteric Oppression is the album where The Moth Gatherer truly perfect that balance between heaviness, melodic post-rock and overall patience in their songwriting. The influence of old post-metal greats is still here both figuratively and literally, as Magnus Lindberg (Cult of Luna) does have mastering duties on this latest album. The band really opts for more drawn-out structures to the songs... Now you had albums like Somewhere Along the Highway, The Eye of Every Storm, or In the Absence of Truth coming out. Those latter albums are what Id say Esoteric Oppression resembles the most and in some ways, that enveloping sense of heaviness is missed here. But what it is being replaced with shines in its own bright way, showcasing a band that wants to do more than just be heavy. And now we have another stunning album by one of post-metals more consistent modern ambassadors, and one of the best releases out of the genre youll likely hear all year.\' LISTEN: https://agoniarecords.bandcamp.com/album/esoteric-oppression Yuxa - (Brighton, UK) \'Brighton, UK-based Yuxa have an intuitive grasp on the ideal ebbs and flows of atmospheric sludge and doom. In a genre characterized by (sometimes overly) patient build-ups and measured, drawn-out compositions, its refreshing to hear a band who make getting to the point possible within the post-metal/sludge framework. The slow-burning fierceness that underlies their music, bolstered by a dual-vocalist setup, is reminiscent of Through Silver In Blood-era Neurosis, though Yuxa inject their own vibrance they feel more direct, a candid address to the listener. There are also hints of Cult of Luna; Yuxa have a similar mysterious light reflected in their melodic sensibilities, as well as an uncanny sense for tension-layering.\' LISTEN: https://yuxauk.bandcamp.com/ + Special guest supports to be announced. 6 advance. 8 on the door. 7PM | 14+

This is the definitive tribute to one of the biggest sounds in rock and theyve performed the songs of R.E.M. to thousands of people worldwide. Where this band succeeds is in the accuracy of the sound ... the lead singer looks the part, his voice is a fairly uncanny likeness of Michael Stipes the other musicians also create a brilliant rendition of the songs, fully convincing and delivered with confidence. - Platinum Al R.E.M. was one of the first alternative rock bands. John Craigie // Cafe Totem

Renowned for his eloquent Americana style, engaging live shows, and off-the-cuff clever observations, John Craigie carries on the legacy of classic singer-songwriters, while blazing a trail of his own. Recently, that trail twisted and turned into new territory for the Portland, OR performer who The Stranger appropriately dubbed, the lovechild of John Prine and Mitch Hedberg. His music speaks loud to both audiences and fellow artists. Todd Snider notably hand-delivered a gift on-stage, and Chuck Norris has sent fan mail. His fifth full-length album, No Rain, No Rose boasted two collaborations with Gregory Alan Isakov, namely Highway Blood and I Am California. Both quickly cracked One Million Spotify streams and counting as his knack for a captivating narrative and rustic aural palettes powered the 13-track offering together. As No Rain, No Rose landed, he caught the attention of none other than Jack Johnson. Soon after, Craigie found himself onstage for 12 shows during Johnsons 2017 summer tour including performances at The Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA and The Gorge in Washington. Along the way, he earned acclaim from SF Weekly, Seattle Times, AXS, and more. Festival appearances also include Ohana Music Festival (CA), Mountain jam (NY), SXSW (TX), Electric Forest (MI), Summer Camp (IL), Kate Wolf Music Festival (CA), Pickathon (OR), Edmonton Folk Festival (AB), Kerrville Folk Festival (TX), Wanderlust (CA & VT), High Sierra Music Festival (CA) and more. When Craigie plays, its one of those special shows that can make you laugh and cry in the same song. Its a musical journey that cant be denied.

Future Jazz // Run Logan Run, Long Legged Creatures & OKH

Future Jazz pres. Run Logan Run, Long Legged Creatures & OKH Wednesday 29th Jan // 19:30 - 23:00 6 adv tickets here -> https://fatso.ma/SYVD Celebrating artists pushing the boundaries and blurring the lines of Jazz music, as part of Yellow Arch Studios\' Independent Venue Week. Run Logan Run are a head on collision of pounding tribal drums and screaming guttural saxophone. Architects of intense contrast, the duos diverse and precise instrumentation regularly flirts with fragility and raw power. Formed through a shared passion for improvisation, spiritual jazz and heavier experimental music, the pair have been authoring their own narrative in the new wave of crossover jazz; touring the UK and festival circuit extensively, picking up the Montreux Jazz Talent Award for their performance at the festival this Summer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbCcWegYDhs + support from Long Legged Creatures; inhabiting an inventive middle ground between the artificial and the analogically pure. LLCs unique blend of ever-twisting electronica has shaped their live appearances into some kind of hybrid; on one hand groove-laden club set, the other a hardcore punk show. Now with some heavy hitting shows under their belt, LLCs steezy electronic spirit has earned them not-to-be-missed status in Leeds fruitful DIY scene. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42TjY96hbIQ OKH; heavy hitting, brain twisting beat wizard playing a live set of original productions that will have your head nodding to potentially dangerous degrees.

Brexit And Its Impact On The Music Industry

As part of our Independent Venue Week program, we launch a new series of panel discussions focused around issues within the music industry - YA: Discussions in Music. As Brexit comes hastily round the corner, the music industry in the UK and Europe faces a wealth of uncertainty over how the process of leaving the European Union will impact its everyday running. Bringing together figures from Sheffield\'s music community, this panel discussion will unpack the legal and administrative ways in which the Brexit process may impact the industry and explore how, as a community, we should be treating and acting in response to Brexit as a political issue. Kyshona At Cafe #9

Kyshona returns to Cafe #9 with her new album, Listen, in hand. Join Kyshona for an evening of stories and songs at Cafe #9. Kyshona has always lent her voice and music to those that feel they have been silenced or forgotten. She began her career as a music therapist, writing her first songs with her patients--the students and inmates under her care. She soon found the need to write independently and find her own voice, and endeavor which led her to the fertile ground of the Nashville creative community and songwriting culture. Since then, she has learned how to balance her music career with her passion to heal the hurting. Audiences will find a common thread of empowerment, overcoming adversity, and finding hope in her work. On February 28, 2020, Kyshona will release her new LP Listen, co-produced with Andrija Tokic (St. Paul & The Broken Bones, Alabama Shakes, Hurray For The Riff Raff) and recorded mostly at his famed Nashville studio The Bomb Shelter. Within the grooves of its 10 tracks, Kyshona blends roots, rock, R&B, and folk with lyrical prowess to uplift the marginalized and bring awareness to the masses. It\'s for every silent scream, every heavy load, fearful thought, and a simmering sense of anger that the repressed, the lost, and the forgotten try to hide from the world. After her powerful performances, concertgoers often ask, "What can I do?" Her response? "Listen." _____________________________ Former music therapist Kyshona Armstrong has been called upon to represent for soul and gospel in roots, rock and folk lineups and to bring singer-songwriter sensibilities to R&B bills. But wherever she plants her feet, she does so with righteous conviction and a strong sense of her own voice."- NPR Music Watch Kyshona\'s latest video, Fallen People: https://youtu.be/e74pmdoz3D8

Ryan Webb / Jon Cocker / Sam Cudworth / The Village

Fourth City\'s Mat Hume puts together music from the UK and beyond! Ryan Webb Swindon-based solo rock artist Ryan Webb performs his carefully crafted songs with strong powerful vocals, and outstanding guitar skills. He has been likened to Matt Bellamy (Muse) vocally on several occasions. With what appears to be an endless supply of air in his lungs, Ryan can quite easily rival the likes of Matt Bellamy from Muse, or even the late and great Jeff Buckley. Hughie Dixon, Uxbridge Gazette https://www.ryanwebb.org/ Jon Cocker Jon Cocker plays dark, full alternative acoustic music. He was born in Sheffield (UK), and joined his first gigging band in Leeds, before moving to Norwich. He briefly became an international artist when he played a gig in Japan, where he attempted some Japanese phrases between songs with unknown success. Now, armed with an acoustic guitar, his first solo EP, "Jon Cocker", has at long last escaped the studio. https://open.spotify.com/artist/6djN6hWlwNKSLuHMlik9z4 https://www.joncocker.com/ Sam Cudworth Songs Lancashire based singer-songwriter playing acoustic tunes with memorable choruses backed by bluesy folk guitar. https://open.spotify.com/artist/61ogqBlzsJbRwOfq0Xcxbt The Village The spirit of Syd Barrett, Robyn Hitchcock and Andy Partridge permeate the music of pink sock wearing trilby hatted troubadour Phil Matthews a.k.a. the Village - always a pleasure to welcome him back to our stage. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCG-X8khZQ5XCIzdkSwCBElA?sub_confirmation=1 * Please note running order will be confirmed on the night * Take tomorrow off - 18+ (ID REQUIRED) DOORS OPEN 7pm LIVE ACTS 8-11pm AFTERSHOW PARTY 11-4am FREE ENTRY // NO REFUNDS

Hawthorne Heights: 'The Silence In B&W ' In Full / Sheffield

The Leadmill x Wrong Crowd pres. Hawthorne Heights performing \' The Silence in Black and White\' in full! Tickets on sale Friday 27th Sept 9am! Hawthorne Heights return to Sheffield to play their seminal debut album The Slience In Black & White in full! This is definitely one for all you old school emos! One of the biggest breakout successes of the new millennial emo-punk explosion, Hawthorne Heights found huge success with their first two albums, both of which went gold; their 2006 single Saying Sorry also earned gold status. Originally called A Day in the Life, the Ohio-based band endured personal hardships, numerous lineup changes, and a landscape of shifting musical styles over the years, but continued to hone their particular brand of angst-fueled pop-punk well into the 2010s. Composed of drummer Eron Bucciarelli, bassist Matt Ridenour, vocalist/guitar player J.T. Woodruff, and guitarists Casey Calvert and Micah Carli, Hawthorne Heights built their fan base on a demo recording and a series of self-booked national tours that saw them sharing stages with the likes of From Autumn to Ashes and the Descendents. In 2003, they signed with Chicago label Victory Records, resulting in the 2004 release of their powerful full-length debut, The Silence in Black and White. While the bandmates relentlessly toured behind it, the album became Victorys highest-selling debut, and its lead single, Ohio Is for Lovers, slowly invaded rock radio. Hawthorne Heights second album, If Only You Were Lonely, arrived in 2006 along with a DVD titled This Is Who We Are. Leading up to the albums release, Victory urged the bands street team members to help it chart above R&B singer Ne-Yo, whose own album was slated to be released the same day. Questionable promotional tactics included rearranging store displays to hide Ne-Yos record and make Hawthorne Heights more prominent. Lonely debuted at number three on the charts, though more than a few eyebrows were raised in the band and labels direction. Regardless, the album continued to sell well, eventually going gold.

Quench: Riz La Teef

With great pleasure Quench announces RIZ LA TEEF for the first time in Sheffield in Cafe Totems lovely, intimate basement. This has been a longtime coming for us, Riz La Teef is one of our favourite DJs and it was only a matter of time before we brought him up for his Sheffield debut. 100 lucky heads are in for an absolute treat when the vinyl purist, dub-plate king gets busy on the wax. Proficient in Garage, Funky, Grime and Dubstep; Riz La Teef embodies the broad ranging UK sound that Quench is all about. A quick browse of his YouTube channel gives you an idea of the rare cuts this selector has to offer. A listen to any of his shows on Rinse, Balamii and Red Light Radio, or any of a growing number of Boiler Rooms, will show you that this isnt just any DJ, but one of the finest vinylists going. More Pussy 3mpire head honcho, Daebak, was the only choice for support on this one. The Sheffield local brings with her some killer selections ranging from Hard Drum and Funky to ghetto techno and more - expect us to be around the 140 BPM for most of the night. Further support from Quench residents Q-Gabe & SID.

Ali Sperry At Cafe #9

Since her 2017 release of "Crooked Feelings" Ali Sperry has been touring, writing, moving into a new house in Madison, TN, and most recently, getting hitched. Love is in the air and in this period of nesting in a new home and nurturing a brand new marriage, she delightedly released two new singles recently: "Louise" and "Tennessee Snow". Both solo and with her band Ali has shared shows with Nicki Bluhm, Langhorne Slim, Erin Rae, Andrew Combs, Mipso, Kelsey Waldon and more. One young Nashville singer is taking a big step toward distinguishing herself in the enormous pool of talent living and making music there. Ali Sperry, a modest young singer/songwriter with a personality that comes over with sweet earnestness in such a competitive world, has an ambition. That goal is to reach listeners by creating lyrics and melodies, with effective production values, that will resonate with listeners in powerful but varied ways. She succeeds in her newly released second album, Crooked Feelings. --Ron Wray, No Depression "As the presence of 70s jangle amongst the would-be modern singer-songwriter grows more and more prevalent, Nashvilles Ali Sperry has chosen to go the way of the Collins, Guthrie, and Denny. Rather than join the jangle-fray, Sperry chose instead to revisit that lost age of genre-medling magnificence on her upcoming LP Crooked Feelings. Its airy and open, but not so nebulous that Sperrys musical and lyrical intentions become indeterminate and lazily referred to as singer-songwriter fodder."--Sean McHugh, Lockeland Springsteen "Ms. Sperry\'s vocals take the center stage throughout, with a warm Karen Carpenter-esque purity. Its familiar and inviting."--Beverly Napalm, The Noise

SOLD OUT - Dark Norse - Sheffield

While Thor thunders, Loki schemes, and giants blunder about, there are darker things abroad: the dragon Fafnir and his obsession with gold, how Odin sacrificed his eye and then his own life - to himself - to acquire magic and wisdom, and the Darugr dead that leave their barrow mounds to hunt the living. This collections of Viking legends breaks open the lid of stranger and more sinister tales from the Norse heroes and villains, the victors and victims. "Just brilliant. Bringing old tales to life" Lorna, Mansfield "Absolutely captivating to watch" Dan, Northampton "He transports you to a different world and is so engaging and captivating, left me just wanting to hear more and more stories." Josie Long: Tender

Three-time Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee and very-hard-to-pin-down-indie-underdog-nightmare Josie Long is back with a brand new show after a brief hiatus, during which she had a baby and so on. It\'s about the mind-bending intensity of new motherhood, but mostly about kindness, gentleness, and joy - all in all, the edgiest thing you will see this year. The aim is for you to come out of it feeling optimistic about the future, although that is a big ask. At the very least there will be some really silly voices in it, and thats not nothing. Times Brilliantly evocative, an original and unflagging spirit. Broadway Baby Shes the consummate comedian. A wonderful talent. DITZ | Record Junkee, Sheffield

Circle Sounds Presents: DITZ - Debut Sheffield Headline A new quintet whose jarring clatter and short sharp tunes make them a welcome addition to the fold. Seeking Arrangement - their latest following a recently-released debut EP - is part Girl Band itchy discordance and part noisy grunge thrash. In and out in just over 90-seconds, its a big heavy wallop of sound thatll club you round the ears and leave you wanting more. - DIY Magazine With their sound firmly rooted in the Brighton hardcore scene, DITZ make neurotic angular thrash punk that pulls you into its paranoid drama. The quintet have garnered a reputation for their wild energetic shows, playing alongside other excellent acts such as LICE and Pulled Apart By Horses. Now their new single has dropped via Permanent Creeps and is dying for a listen. Seeking Arrangement is an erratic triumph, a whirling frenzy complete with chilling guitar lines, moaning bass and a chorus that is as cathartic as it is haunting. - SoYoung Shambling its way forward via wiry, telegraph-line guitars before dropping like a huge slab of squalling noise, the song feels like a one and a half minute quest through twenty-five years worth of punk, grunge, noise and thrash influences. Indeed, the best way to think of Ditzs sound is like one of those big top tents thats just wide enough to cover all of the various members tastes and personal inspirations, of which there are many. - Loud & Quiet DITZ are the best band in Brighton and probably the world! - Joe Talbot (IDLES) Very good heavy rock, very immediate post-hardcore. - Laurie Vincent (Slaves) Plus special guests TBA Tickets on sale Thursday 28th November 12 noon! Deanna Wheeler/ Nero Kane / Giant & The Georges / Sabine

Fourth City\'s Mat Hume puts together music from the UK and beyond! Deanna Wheeler & The Newarkansans Deanna Wheeler is a California native-turned-Austin siren. She melds the classic country sounds of Reba, Martina McBride and Stevie Nicks with a fiery modern pop/country flair. Weaving back & forth in her songs & onstage between leather & lace, wild weather & grace, Deanna demands the listeners\' attention, armed with a powerhouse voice & brutally honest lyrics of her rollercoaster movie-scripted dramatic past. www.deanawheelermusic.com https://open.spotify.com/artist/1N5B3H6b5JJWHPx6pYV63Z?si=XemB0vK4SIioU2w-aR0lKg Nero Kane Nero Kane is the nickname of Marco Mezzadri, a songwriter and musician already known in the Italian underground scene, now focusing on a new intimate, minimal and decadent path. Voice and guitar combine his European roots to an American desert sound in a project full of dark and emotional visions. Love In A Dying World is the name of his new album, recorded and produced in Los Angeles by Joe Cardamone (The Icarus Line / Holy War), released on November 30th, 2018. Nero Kane sets off carrying existential melancholy on the path of a Nick Cave ideally accompanied by Ry Cooder of Paris Texas. La Repubblica (IT), March 2019. A dark, desert, hallucinated and decadent rock that evokes ghosts of Mark Lanegan, the last Johnny Cash, the more pulp Lou Reed. Following a bad break up, a trip to Nashville in October 2018 was the catalyst for Sabine in bringing her songwriting to life. Through intelligent and honest lyrics, matched with beautiful melodies, Sabine explores her personal experience; which is both painful and sad, but ultimately uplifting and inspiring. With a love for all genres of music from Classical to Country, Sabine implements her own style of blended country-pop with a twist of folk. Dune Messiah (DK) | West Street Live, Sheffield.

Dune Messiah (DK) - https://dunemessiah.bandcamp.com/ FFO Goth, Folk, Country The Danish folk-noir artist Dune Messiah, unfolds a universe of black romance and mysticism. On March 29, he is publishing his second studio album "Moments of Bliss", through French label Third Coming Records and German label Aufnahme + Wiedergabe. Throughout the album we get to know a kind of isolated character express his bitter emotions and pity for humanity. A misanthrope who is outside the common society and sometimes with a sense of jealousy tries to reach out towards it. The album moves through many genres, ranging from jazzy improvisations on trumpet, to american country music a\'la Hank Williams, to ballads with a calypso, lonely wedding-keyboard player feel to it. All of which is narrated through the same gothic folk style that Dune Messiah has put out thus far. The genre can be described as a folk-noir, in the same way as the old films deal with grand emotions and the romantic, but at the same time possess the eerie and gloomy. More bands TBA. X Ambassadors // The Leadmill, Sheffield

EXCLUSIVE VENUE PRE-SALE TUESDAY 3RD DECEMBER AT 10AM X Ambassadors debut platinum selling album VHS saw the band transition from Ithaca alt-rockers and Brooklyn indie scene outsiders, to Billboard stalwarts. The album was an intimate insight into Sam Harris and his brother Casey Harris youth studded with audio snippets from home movies, and early recording sessions and sound checks. With it, came the genre-defining hits Unsteady and Renegades, a three-year global touring odyssey and a string of high-profile festival performances. Harris songwriting became increasingly personal resulting in the shattering, shimmering 2018 singles JOYFUL and Dont Stay followed by a North American headline tour. Always looking to give back to the community that raised them X Ambassadors returned to Ithaca for the second annual Cayuga Sound Festival this past September creating and curating two days of musical performances and raising money for local charities. In 2019 X Ambassadors released BOOM, a quick-fire anthem for emphatic recovery and personal revolutions. The artwork for BOOM is written in Braille and designed in a yellow-on-black colorway. For Casey Harris, the bands keyboardist and Sam Harris brother, who was born blind, it is the first physical manifestation of his work that he has been able to experience visually. He has just 10% of his vision. X Ambassadors released their new album ORION on June 14, 2019 on KIDinaKORNER/Interscope Records.

The Murder Capital // The Leadmill, Sheffield

If you have ever seen The Murder Capital live then what will strike you most about the experience is not the heaviness, the bleakness or the rage you might expect, but witnessing a most extreme vision of tenderness. Their debut album, When I Have Fears, recorded over the Spring with Flood (PJ Harvey, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, New Order etc.), embodies this tenderness; it is a purple bruise on the hard knee of the so-called post-punk resurgence. It is not a labour of love but a struggle through love, loneliness and grief that now sits weightless upon their five shoulders, not marching, but dancing, out into the cold light of day. It exists in two worlds which oppose each other yet breath each others air, because ultimately it is an album about accepting that which you fear, loving that which you hate, feeling the excess that can only be found in isolation. The name, When I Have Fears acknowledges its own vulnerability, and was given very early on to ensure that consistency of thought, and that beautiful arch in the narrative which gives space for the purging of guilt and leads, ultimately, to its final cathartic moments.Listening to how many places opening track For Everything reaches sonically within the first ten seconds is representative of the albums attempt to touch upon the whole spectrum of human emotion. The guitars, like saws, sing to each other, tenor and baritone; a chiming tambourine compliments even the methodical and angry deep-set drums. Not at all, not for everything,/ Its not for everything at all./ Not for everyone, its not for anyone at all, is so much more than just a smart, slick trick of the tongue, because the poetic and sonic landscape of which it speaks, and that which the whole album speaks, is both a mountain and a valley - it really becomes both everything and nothing. The music was secondary, and the ethos of compassion and ability to fully understand one another always came first. The last time we played through the album we felt every second of those 6 months spent writing it and a lot of it is a reflection of what we went through together. Just to hear Feeling Fades, to glimpse it, you immediately understand The Murder Capitals insatiable need for unity and empathy both to banish and beautify the crux of loneliness. We hear that isolated voice searching out to sea, And as the feeling fades away/ The tearing streets create a wave: it lurches forward with uncertainty over the resounding bass that creeps slowly, slowly, and eventually catches up with a crack of those chugging drums. And suddenly we have union, we are there running alongside that voice, hand in hand. And, as everything falls in time and into place, we become acutely aware of the present, and that present which the voice sings of, the now elapsed round you and me, is no longer a lonely existence. You might be surprised to know that the debut album from that dark, twisted Dublin quintet, The Murder Capital, is in all its boyish innocence and vulnerability, a coming of age album. When you get to your teens you begin to feel like youre playing catch up with your inner child. You have to dismantle all the shit that was put into your parents brains and given to you. A generational baggage handed to us perhaps not consciously, but by virtue of blood and guilt, as explained in More Is Less: If I gave you what you wanted/ youd never be full./ Thats the trappings of your boyish mind/ Become unshakeable. Something as small as questioning why at six years old your hands were clasped in prayer, becomes a quiet revolution, and weve tried to dismantle it in the fact that we\'ve been completely honest in attempting to dismantle ourselves. It is an attempt to hold a mirror up to emotion, to pain, which for this group is quite a specific pain; an unequivocal suffering as sharp as a shard of this reflective glass. But by focusing in on this struggle it comes undone, unanchored, deconstructed- but never diluted. It is simply allowed to float freely within the soundscape, where it may become transformed as another harnesses it. The same, but different- it is the cracked mirror. Came home from somewhere,/ somehow covered in myself./ Came home from nowhere,/ Somehow now Im someone else sings Slowdance I, with its intense reverb, drone-like bass and stinging atonal guitar. Its murky, anonymous and unsure compared to the elation of Slowdance II, and even though the tracks bleed into each other, you can senseit emerging from the pain, reborn as the cello sings and we enter the second half of the record. This relationship between pain and freedom is an important one. The suicide of a close friend led not only to the birth of the bands name but to the philosophy of the entire record, every single one of those lyrics relates back in some way to his death. Discovering the work of photographer Francesca Woodman who took her own life at 22, was also a significant touch point. The biggest impression herwork left on us was relating to the loneliness of her photos. That sense of being completely on your own, but also taking solace in the beauty of the work as well. I think wed be lying if we ever truly admitted to ourselves that we werent afraid of dying young. I think we push the boundaries at times. Theres something about Francesca Woodmans work that just takes control of that. Listening to Green and Blue, a track written immediately after discovering her work, you can hear that isolation as each instrument seems to exist entirely in a world of its own- so self aware. Lyrically too, its completely subjective. It\'s a song that can see only out of your eyes, it blurs the background and draws a thick black outline around the iris, gothic and indulgent. If this work inspires within us a sense of self-reflection and confrontation, then the album too came to realise itself, and in the most poignant way possible. One member buried his mum half way through recording, and so was born the dark grooves and tragic beauty of the records bravest track, Dont Cling To Life. Even through everything that was going on we didnt want to write a sad song, we wanted to write a song you could dance to. Feeling grief and wanting to dance through it, and feeling the rawness and emptiness of our own grief, because any relationship that involves love is so specific to you. And this quiet but violent contemplation will eventually lead you to the sobered ecstasy that we hear in the anti-chorus of Love, Love, Love. The final tracks words are weighted with their own importance, they are sure, and the instrumentation is round and whole and warm with the friction of the constant flitting snare, beating like a human heart. Love, fear, hate, grief: it is not the fact of these experiences but their uniqueness, that makes them universal. It is the knowledge that no one else is feeling how you feel, and yet you all find yourselves huddled round that same small dignified fire in the corner of the room at your darkest, coldest moments. When I Have Fears is not black and white, it is a unique experience that becomes universal simply through listening, tethered together by an unbreakable tenderness. Not black and white, but three anonymous bodies, cloaked and embracing in a 13.5-pallid, grey-beige.It is everything and it is nothing.Shared by everyone and no one.

Kiefer Sutherland // The Leadmill, Sheffield

Crosstown Concerts presents Kiefer Sutherland Reckless & Me Tour + special guests The Leadmill, Sheffield Watch the video for Something You Love (Live from Berlin) here: https://youtu.be/RFjoWWfn2RA Kiefer Sutherland has announced that he will be returning to the UK early in 2020 for a string of UK dates (full dates below). Sutherlands second album, the 10-song Reckless & Me, arrived earlier this year on a wave of praise and a deluxe edition of the album is available now via BMG. Reckless & Me Special Edition includes the original album along with a bonus disc featuring Sutherlands full concert in Berlin. Recorded on March 1, 2019 at SchwuZ in Berlin, Germany, the live disc captures an energetic and dynamically-tight set from Kiefer and his band. Reckless & Me delivers Sutherlands Americana and country rock-infused songwriting style and highlights his gift of soulful storytelling. On the bonus disc, Live In Berlin, Sutherland gets to dive deeper into storytelling and reveals some personal anecdotes behind the songs. Weve played so many shows over the past five years, to have one of them recorded so that fans who couldnt make a show because we didnt play in their particular town or city, is very special to me. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed playing it. Reckless & Me holds beautifully arranged ballads and authentic country rockers such as the albums lead single, Open Road, This Is How Its Done and Something You Love all delivered with Sutherlands distinctive, whiskey-soaked and gravel-laced voice. Produced by Jude Cole, Reckless & Me marks the follow up to Sutherlands critically acclaimed debut album, Down In A Hole (2016). While influences are drawn from the likes of METZ, Pere Ubu, Deerhoof, The Jesus Lizard, The Mars Volta & Andy Kaufman, the indie-math- psycho-noise rulebook is torn apart, resulting in erratic songs that somehow seem to develop into wriggling earworms. Praised for their live performances, THE GURU GURU is a must-see... With palpable, electric energy oozing from the stage, vocalist Tom Adriaenssens balances on the verge of theatrical psychosis. Touring highlights include: ArcTanGent (UK), Portals (UK), Ment (SLO), Monkey Week (ESP), Rock Herk (BE), Sziget (HU), Pukkelpop (BE) , etc... They played +- 150 domestic and international shows (France, Spain, UK, Reunion Island, Germany, Switzerland, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia) in the last 2 years. After releasing a promising EP, 7 inch, 10 inch (split record with fierce trio Brutus) and their debut album PCHEW, they are now ready to release their 2nd full album POINT FINGERS, produced by Wouter Vlaeminck (Raketkanon, Kapitan Korsakov, etc.), mixed by David Bottrill (King Crimson, Tool, Coheed and Cambria, etc.) and mastered by Heba Kadry (Chelsea Wolfe, Deerhunter, Lightning Bolt, etc.). GURU KNOW NO? After the release of their debut-album PCHEW and an ever- building live reputation both domestic and international, THE GURU GURU are back! With their second album they dig even deeper into the turmoil of their music and its non-stop madness. The power of nature over reason After pushing musical and personal boundaries their multicolored strait-jacket vocals, feverish guitars and tormented rhythm section has evolved into an album which defines the band even more. I haven\'t been sincere like this before (- Tom The Bomb). Instead of being in the nuthouse they now own the asylum and welcome you all to be folded origamiwise. The Script At FlyDSA Arena

Irish alt-pop trio The Script start a new chapter with the November 8th release of their new album Sunsets & Full Moons theyll be embarking upon a UK tour next year bringing which will see them perform at FlyDSA Arena for the third time in their career on Wednesday the 26th of February 2020. Having returned with the emotive, stadium-bound first single The Last Time, Sunsets & Full Moons is the sound of The Script - Danny ODonoghue (vocals, piano, guitar), Mark Sheehan (vocals, guitars) and Glen Power (drums) - focusing on the inclusive, uplifting songwriting that helped them become an arena-filling band with a fervent fan base the world over. No frills, no production, just us playing as a band, notes Sheehan. Its us doing what we do best. The Script approached the album reinvigorated following a triumphant tour in support of 2017s #1 album Freedom Child. Again echoing their early days, the band embraced the unifying power of the simple things - killer hooks, insistent melodies and stirring sentiments. They opted to produce the album themselves, staying close to home at their unshowy space in Metropolis Studios, with help from mixing master and old friend Mark Spike Stent (Coldplay, Beyonc, Frank Ocean) plus Manny Marroquin (Post Malone, Lizzo, Dua Lipa) and Dan Frampton (AuRa, Maejor, Jack Savoretti). No frills, no production, just us playing as a band, notes Sheehan. Its us doing what we do best. Tickets for The Scripts show at FlyDSA Arena on Wednesday the 26th of February 2020 go on general sale at 9:30am on Friday 18th of October 2019 available: 0114 256 56 56 or www.flydsaarena.co.uk A full ticket price breakdown below:- 31.94 (27.50 ticket price plus 4.44 venue fees) 45.44 (39.50 ticket price plus 5.94 venue fees) 56.69 (49.50 ticket price plus 7.19 venue fees)

The Rumjacks Sheffield Corporation

The Rumjacks Plus support Mick O\'Toole The Gallowgate Murders "Its like growing up with a tear in your eye and a storm brewing in your heart.. muses frontman Frankie McLaughlin on the musical heritage of the group. We were raised on the Scottish & Irish music in our parents record collection, before colliding head-on with Punk Rock as we grew older & thought we knew everything. These two immovable pillars define The Rumjacks above all else, as they continue to cut their own path through the tangled musical landscape before them. Their own brand of Celtic Punk has seen them release two EPs Hung, Drawn & Portered & Sound as a Pound (09), as well as three powerful full length albums Gangs of New Holland (10), Sober & Godless (15), & Sleepin Rough (16). Since the bands inception in Sydney, Australia in late 2008 when McLaughlin met Bassist Johnny McKelvey, they have racked up millions of YouTube views, with over 24 million of these alone for their breakthrough track An Irish Pub Song. Other stunning videos that capture the incredible live energy of the band include Uncle Tommy, Blows & Unkind Words & Plenty, while Crosses for eyes and Me Old Ball & Chain see them hard at work in the studio. The videos for Home, One Summers Day weremade while The Rumjacks were on tour, and stand testament to the bands enormous appeal wherever they go. Their incendiary live performances and seemingly endless touring regime has seen them share the stage with acts as diverse as Dropkick Murphys, The Interrupters, Anti Flag, CJ Ramone, The Real McKenzies, Gogol Bordello, Ruts DC, Guttermouth, GBH, UK Subs and The Aggrolites. Were at home on any lineup in front of any crowd, I think there are elements of what we do that must appeal to just about anyone. Indeed there are from their heavy Celtic roots to the driving punk rock or even ska/reggae rhythms, well-oiled sing-alongs & choking ballads. We draw on so many influences, but still its important for us to force the bounds of what we already do, play good solid Punk rock with a fat smear of Celtic folk right through it, Hopefully contributing something fresh & substantial thatll stick around in peoples hearts long after the partys over.. 2015 marked a real tipping point for the band, when after wowing home crowds with several appearances at the prestigious Byron Bay Bluesfest in Australia, they embarked on a hugely successful tour of Europe playing to over 50,000 people. Absolutely crushing just about any bands must do list, they took in the likes of Boomtown Fair (UK), Montelago Celtic Festival (Italy) and Jarocin Festival (Poland), as well as sell-out shows at many iconic club venues like The Garage (London), Wild At Heart (Berlin) and Rock Cafe (Prague). Barely stopping to cool their jets, the band made a triumphant return to the festivals and concert halls of Europe & The UK in 2016, playing almost a hundred dates over some 24 countries. Inciting hysteria & pushing their own physical barriers as they went, the boys chalked up plumb appearances at some of Europe\'s hottest festivals, including; Punk Rock Holiday, Lowlands Festival, Exit Festival, Rock marathon, Mighty Sounds, Germany\'s Taubertal & Open Flair Festivals, and Woodstock Festival in Poland, attended by half a million people. Somehow in the midst of all this they managed to release their third album \'Sleepin\' Rough. Along with two dynamic new videos for the singles \'A Fistful o\' Roses\' and \'Patron Saint o\' Theives\' (the latter shot in Poland on a rare day off during their EU tour) the album has been met with critical acclaim the world over. 2017 see\'s The Rumjacks make their long awaited maiden foray into the USA & Canada. Where they will tear their way around from San Diego\'s tin roof in the gaslamp quarter, through New Orleans, Austin Texas for the SXSW Festival & up along the east coast into Canada. They\'ll return again in September after some more EU summer shows, to headline Californias Get Shamrocked festival. Watch this space.. though dont blink, or youre likely to miss em.

Molchat Doma | Sheffield

Circle Sounds Presents: Molchat Doma (Debut Sheffield Show) - Minsk, Belarus Molchat Doma (translated as Houses Are Silent), founded in 2017 in Minsk, Belarus, stands at the intersection of post punk, new wave and synth pop. Dark yet danceable, and with a heavy dose of goth ethos, their music is reminiscent of the masters that predate them, but make no mistake: Molchat Doma creates a sound and meaning that is immediately recognisable as all their own. The band is comprised of Egor Shkutko, who sings the Russian lyrics in his deep monotone, Roman Komogortsev on guitar, synths, and drum machine, and Pavel Kozlov on bass and synths. Their second LP, (pronounced Etazhi, meaning Floors) was released in 2018 on Berlin based Detriti Records. It has sold out four times and is currently on its fifth repressing due to outstanding demand. has garnered over one million views on Youtube. Despite playing to packed clubs in Warsaw, Helsinki and Berlin, they are still flying under the radar in their native Belarus. Temples // The Leadmill, Sheffield

Temples return to The Leadmill as part of our 40th-anniversary celebrations. Tickets are on sale now! It is one of the brilliant facets of recorded music that while it can frame forever in time one of humanitys most fluid art forms, those captured sounds themselves can go on to become an active launchpad for the ideas, memories, emotions and feelings of those listening. Returning with their third album, Hot Motion, Temples have not just provided a strong demonstration of this dual static/frenetic nature, but theyve created a record that revels in this beautiful contradiction. A brilliantly crafted, thoughtfully recorded collection, the albums propulsive, seemingly immediate songs soon reveal an impressive depth of ideas and energy with subsequent listens because, as its title warns, Hot Motion is not a record that stands still.

Stereophonics

Stereophonics have just announced their new single Bust This Town taken from their forthcoming album Kind and that they will be back on the road with a huge Arena tour opening up here in Sheffield at the FlyDSA Arena on Friday 28th February 2020. With Kelly Jones trademark optimistic lyrics and rolling along on a wave of understated instrumentation, Bust This Town is an emotive anthem for living for the moment, going with your instinct and never looking back. Speaking on the new single, Kelly Jones says: Bust This Town is a song about escapism. Two lovers or friends or whoever you want to interpret them to be, finally find the courage to leave the small town they are stuck in and head on down the road breaking all the rules along the way. Its the opener of side 2 of the album, with a four on the floor beat it should be a strong resident in the upcoming tour dates. With unparalleled longevity and continued success, Stereophonics are a band woven into the fabric of popular music. Ida Wene & Samantha Whates - Caf #9, Sheffield

Ida Wene - www.idawenoe.com Bewitching acid folk with a deeply personal edge Clash Magazine Amongst a digital mountain range littered with accomplished folk-ish bands and singersongwriters, it is a rare miracle to come across a cave so rich in jewels as the one beneath Ida Wenes ribcage. While she has an obvious appreciation of Americana, her sound is very definitely laced with more English undertones: the kind of sound Edward Woodward might have heard downstairs in the local inn had the Wicker Man been filmed in a remote Danish village, while Sarah Lund scoured for clues in her jumper. Like the best of the Nordic Noir leaving the Danish mainland, the recordings are at once both sonically pure and grimy; theres a shared loneliness that makes you feel that youre not at all; and all the while there is an honesty to the songwriting that tugs at your sleeve. While her grasp of English is second nature, theres some of those intriguing turns of phrase that only a heart that dreams in another language can weave: The deep conceals things that are real/ look beyond the mirror/look beyond the mirror , I know we see things differently/as long as its not separately and Youre a fish in a bottle/a cock in a coop/the essence of trying Sure, she has the usual credible influences from Vashti to Joni, from Neil Young to Danish folk hero Sebastian; and theres hints of Sandy Denny and Linda Perhacs. But to list artists she sounds like would be to miss the point entirely. As anyone who has witnessed a live show can attest, Ida Wene is very definitely Ida Wene. As Carsten Holm at Danish Radio P6 Beat put it, she has an icy, almost Icelandic timbre. I havent heard this in any other Danish artist an incredibly strong vocal God Is In The TV Zine went on to say her voice boasts angelic notes which can often leak her endearing Danish roots Samantha Whates https://www.facebook.com/samanthawhatesmusic With Scottish roots, transplanted into Londons soil in her teenage years, Samantha Whates is a cosmopolitan Celt with equal parts concrete and heather to her music. In those songs, youre as likely to hear the breaking of day as you are broken hearts slowly mending, or just the conversational musings of people on their lunch break. All shades of human experience are subtly blended. Some people settle in The Smoke lose their accent, dizzied by Hackney Carriage fumes and too many rotations round the Circle Line. Samanthas delivery is smoothly Scottish to its core. Urban and urbane, youll hear the timeless qualities in her songs that songs that reflect the existences of real-life folk ought to possess. Samanthas live show lends itself to venues of any size, from the back room of a small-town pub to the largest of festivals and major London venues (Union Chapel, Cecil Sharp House, Tate Modern, Royal Festival Hall, Roundhouse). Her debut album, Dark Nights Make For Brighter Days & EP Trees & Gold, earned radio play transcending pure folk shows (BBC 6Music, Radio 2, KCRW, Resonance FM), as well as praise from a reassuringly large body of people who know their onions: The most beautiful album... Julian Cope // The Leadmill, Sheffield

English musician, writer, historian, and cosmic shaman Julian Cope came to fame in the late 70s and early 80s as the frontman for the Liverpudlian post-punk group Teardrop Explodes. An enigmatic storyteller, contrarian, mystic, and hallucinogen enthusiast, Cope embarked on a genre-defying solo career upon leaving the band in 1983. Beginning with World Shut Your Mouth in 1984, he released a string of LPs that married the Teardrops love of debauched psych-pop with folk, chamber pop, Krautrock, ambient/electronica, and space and alternative rock. He remained popular in the U.K. but didnt attain commercial success overseas until the release of the slickly produced Saint Julian in 1987, which featured the hits Trampolene and World Shut Your Mouth, the latter of which was performed live on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Released in 1991, Peggy Suicide saw Cope strip away the studio polish and deliver an ambitious and environmentally themed set of brooding funk, soul, folk, and cosmic garage rock, an aesthetic he would revisit again on 1992s Jehovahkill and 1994s Autogeddon. He continued to explore themes of neolithic history, rock & roll, cultural activism, ecology, and paganism well into the 2000s via eclectic left-field outings like Citizen Caind (2005), Psychedelic Revolution (2012), and Drunken Songs (2017). In addition to his musical works, which include stints with the bands Black Sheep and Brain Donor, Cope has written and published a number of books, ranging from a novel of fiction (One Three One) and a two-volume autobiography (Head On) to a pair of ornate coffee-table books on archaeology (The Modern Antiquarian and The Megalithic European) and guides to underground music in Germany (Krautrocksampler) and Japan (Japrocksampler).

// G I B L E T // G I B L E T are a four piece \'psychic\' rock band who mostly manifest their art in and around the city of Londinium. About Clayton 2020: The Tripedal Cat It is a warm summers day. It will break your mind and bend your melon. Over 18s only. Everest Queen / Son Of Boar / Helve / Swamp Coffin / Le Menhir

Join us for a night of Sludge, Doom, Stoner and Post-Metal! Everest Queen are progressive sludge maestros from deepest Hertfordshire. We had the pleasure of putting the quartet on at Corporation in late 2018 and we are similarly honoured to have them back for their headline UK tour. Their 2019 debut album Dead Eden has not only been well received, but will undoubtedly be featured on numerous end of year lists in the coming weeks. Touring with them are the brilliant stoner / doomed heavy metallers Son Of Boar. These pals of ours are from just up the road in Bradford, and were chuffed to have them back for this leg of the tour. The Yorkshire quintet put out their debut EP A Tongueless Tale earlier this year, and its an absolute belter. Riffs, riffs and more riffs. Joining us for the show at the Mulberry will be a trio of support acts - Helve (doomed post-metal from Leeds) - a wonderfully progressive group that mix elements from their influences. Fans of The Ocean, Cult of Luna, Amenra and Hundred Year Old Man will be well catered for by this cracking group that weve been wanting to put on for a while now! Swamp Coffin (sludge/doom/stoner/metal from Rotherham) - a band thats quickly become a live favourite of ours over the past year. They knocked it out of the park when we saw them supporting King Witch, as well as at Doomlines in the summer, and theyll be doing it again on this bill, undoubtedly playing cuts from their cracking debut Flatcap Bastard Features. Le Menhir (post-metal / melodic doom from Sheffield) - since debuting in early 2018 it has been a pleasure to watch Paul create, adapt and grow his delicate doom project. Hell be kicking off the evening with a set that will surely see cuts from his awesome EP Ombre. Saturday 7th March 2020 The Mulberry Bar and Venue Tickets - 5 OTD Doors - 6pm
