David August | Manchester

David August LIVE AT GORILLA DOORS: 19:30 The first shafts of morning light creep over the hilltop terraces, illuminating the ancient commune of Palestrina - music with hopeful tones and a human aesthetic. Creating music - the act of creating in general - should be free from rationalization. In the best case, relying solely on subconscious communication, says the classically trained multi-instrumentalist. Speaking with David, one immediately realizes the value that he places upon his well-earned artistic independence and steadfast sincerity. This hard-fought pursuit can be traced clearly through the producers recorded works; from a string of early dance singles and remixes (2010-2014), followed by his celebrated debut album, Times (2013), to a handful of genre-defying outings on Ninja Tune sub-label, Counter Records (2016), the Tonmeister graduate (2017) continues to uncloak hidden inner paths yet to be discovered. Adorning the altars of his newly-founded label, 99CHANTS, DCXXXIX A.C. (2018), the first in a series of offerings, basks in shifting, transcendental glow. The birthplace of his mother, this highland outpost has, as of recent, casted rays of inspiration upon the young musician. After 26 years, I suddenly feel the urgency to connect actively with my Mediterranean provenience and culture. Although always present in me, I rather kept it hidden, private and absent from my creative work. These roots have always evoked the stronger emotions within me. While his live-show takes various shapes and forms, free improvisation lives at the core of the artists fascination. Whether he performs solo for the Boiler Room (2014) or a Resident Advisor Live Session (2015) recruits trusted musicians as part of his Ensemble (2015- 2016), DJs traditionally or explores collaboration with the Deutsches Symphonie- Orchester Berlin (2016), liberating moments of immediate expression remain a constant. After a year of introspection, David August re-emerges with a vitalizing, advanced, personal language. Finding the courage to have a true dialogue with myself has been a challenging process. A never-ending path, I hope to explore in the most honest way possible.

Sold Out - Kelly Lee Owens Live At Soup Kitchen

Now Wave ARE PLEASED TO PRESENT Kelly Lee Owens LIVE AT SOUP KITCHEN WINNER OF PICCADILLY RECORDS 'ALBUM OF THE YEAR' 2017. HERE\'S WHAT THEY HAD TO SAY ABOUT HER DEBUT LP "...referencing our collective favourites and transforming them into something fresh and exciting. Harnessing the Cocteaus, MBV and JAMC, as well as the rhythmic thrust of Chicago and Detroit, KLO trades in immersive, psychedelic pop music, as danceable as it is dreamy. Swathes of hazy synthesis eddy and whirl beneath crystalline vocals, lending the music an aquatic depth matched perfectly by the intimate, expressive lyrics. Fusing the outsider musings of Arthur Russell with Bjorks cryptic poetry, Kelly meditates on anxiety, sadness, identity and ecstasy, pouring pure emotion into an expansive electronic landscape." THIS SHOW IS NOW SOLD OUT.

The Vintage Caravan / 13th November / Rebellion

The Vintage Caravan + SUPPORTS With an average age of nearly 24 years old Icelandic Rockers THE VINTAGE CARAVAN show a maturity worthy of any band that has been on the road for decades. When the band got on stage at the 2012 edition of the Icelandic Eistnaflug festival, the trio was only allowed to enter the venue accompanied by their parents. The attending music fans and journalists were therefore not prepared to the following spectacle. After their triumph at Eistnaflug and heavily impressing more foreign journalists THE VINTAGE CARAVAN became a serious buzz also outside of Iceland. Germanys giant Wacken Open Air was soon to follow and meanwhile leading Rock/Metal label Nuclear Blast had discovered the young talents and struck a deal. What followed was an astonishing amount of shows: European tours -including UK and Scandinavia alongside bands as the legendary EUROPE, BLUES PILLS, GRAND MAGUS and ORCHID. In 2016 the band already started going out on their own headline tours across Europe, UK and South-America. On top the band has been playing numerous festivals such as Roskilde (2x), Wacken Open Air (2x), Hellfest, Summer Breeze, only to name a few. So far THE VINTAGE CARAVAN have released 2 full albums and are currently wrapping up their 3rd and highly anticipated record, which is scheduled for worldwide release in August 2018 via Nuclear Blast Entertainment. Hailu Mergia At Band On The Wall

Band on the Wall welcomes the triumphant return to the music business of one of the leading performers of East Africa - an instrumentalist who was forced into exile by a dictatorial regime hostile to the arts and ended up driving cabs for almost 30 years. Early in 2018, Hailu Mergia's amazing account is finally coming full circle: After the blogger, DJ and label owner Brian Shimkovitz had tracked down Mergia in Washington DC (by far the biggest Ethiopian community outside of the motherland), he brought out three fantastic reissues of the keyboardist's older materials. The maestro started to perform publicly again late in 2013 with sold out venues and amazed fans over three continents. Now Awesome Tapes From Africa, Shimkovitz' imprint, is releasing "Lala Belu", Mergia's long-expected comeback album of all new music. To celebrate this amazing achievement, Mergia will be on the road again to present more elegant excursions in Ethio-Jazz. This is a standing show. 16+. ID required. This is a mixed seated and standing show.

Tamikrest Live At Band On The Wall

Tamikrest live at Band on the Wall - 14 November All around Kidal, the Malian desert stretches in every direction. Endless horizons of rock and sand, barren and parched. This is the southwestern edge of the Sahara, the home of the Tuareg people, and the town of Kidal is one of their main cultural centres. Fought over, conquered and re- conquered, it remains the symbol of Tuareg defiance and hope, the spiritual home of a dispossessed people. It is also the town in which Tamikrest first came together as a group, and on Kidal, Tamikrests fourth studio album, the band pays homage to this place thats nurtured them and their people. Tamikrests new album is the music of defiance, of hope. Its rocknroll from the Sahara, the sound of the Tuareg dream, a dream that will be renewed again, in their ancestral town. Theres a raw beauty in Tamikrests rocknroll. Its there in the driving, insistent groove that powers the songs, the lean, snaking bass lines and the guitars that twine and twist around the melodies, and the utterly natural musical blending of Sahel Africa, the Maghreb, and the West a reflection of influences as diverse as Pink Floyd, Rachid Taha, and flamenco. Yet the Sahara, and the people who live there, is always firmly at its heart. The heaviest desert rock-out yet... Tamikrests music blazes with a righteous intensity that is almost scary. ***** Songlines This is a standing show. 14+. U18's to be accompanied by an adult.
