Feeder: Albert Hall, Manchester

Feeder are ready to come full circle. More than two decades after their first show the band are reinvigorated, tapping into the essential, primal energy that first inspired them. New album Tallulah is evidence of this snappy song writing, expertly produced, and completely natural, completely organic. As ever, Grant Nicholas leads from the front, alongside bass player and comrade Taka Hirose. The bulk of the new record was laid down at his Treehouse home studio. Every record still feels fresh, he argues. Its draining, but in a really good way. I do put a lot of time into it not only the recording and writing, but into everything, really. Tallulah is perhaps the bands most creative yet also concise record, an album that takes real chances while remaining committed to their punk-edged melodies and crisp song construction.

Low Blow continues where We left off, with a focus on infectious bass riffs and guitar riffs that wouldnt feel out of place on a Khruangbin record. Parallels have been drawn between Tame Impala and St. Vincent with HONEYMOANs latest offering. Disobedience At LesFlicks Film Club Manchester

Join our friendly group of lesbian & bisexual women for our monthly film club hosted by Stace, Naomi and Abbie - Film: Disobedience watch the trailer: https://www.lesflicks.com/film/film-database/disobedience/ - Price: 8 - Location: Tribeca Bar, 50 Sackville St, Manchester M1 3WF - Capacity: 50 Every time a lesbian film shows in a cinema and seats remain empty this reinforces the current myth that there is no audience for lesbian films as seat sales get reported back to the distributor. This makes it harder for future films to get distribution. We are working hard to disprove this by promoting lesbian cinema screenings when we find them and also providing hosted socials to break down some of the barriers that are leading to these empty seats. #WeAreAnAudience The LesFlicks film club will meet at Tribeca in Manchester on the second Sunday to see an afternoon film, followed by a drinks and food onsite to give a chance to socialise and discuss the film. In addition there will be occasional ad hoc films when there are any local cinemas that programme a lesbian film. To ensure you hear about all our screenings, and to be able to input into what films we show, we encourage you to join the LesFlicks family.

Emily Burns Live At Soup Kitchen

SJM present Emily Burns + Nick Wilson Tickets on sale now On a Sunday afternoonmarket dayon holiday with her family, Emily Burns gave her first public performance. Taking a box from one of the stalls, she propped herself up onto it, standing ever so slightly taller than the tables of fruit and vegetables. She gave the market-goers a rendition of Macy Grays I Try. Within the first line, Burns had the crowds full attention. From this very first performance over fifteen years ago, Burns not only demonstrated her urgent and instinctive need to communicate through music, but her inborn ability to captivate a crowd, too. Born in Scotland and raised in Rugby, from very early on, Burns musical DNA was formed with what she calls great songwriter music but what others might refer to as dad music. Oasis, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Eric Clapton, Elton Johnwere routinely played around the house. But Burns eye was very quickly turned towards the singer who had managed to harness the rock and roll authenticity of her parents CD collection, with the spectacle of pop performanceP!NK. With these as her influences, Burns very quickly developed her own musical perspective and mission statementsongs which had to be honest, accessible, and have the potential to connect to absolutely anyone.

Goldlink: Albert Hall, Manchester

Where the intersections of the DMV (DC, Maryland and Virginia) collide, GoldLink is a direct product. Washington, D.C., and the broader DMV area, have long been treated like a musical Rubik's cube. There are bursting, Technicolor patches of musical brilliance, but the component parts never line up in a way that made sense to those on the outside. GoldLink is not interested in spelling out all the nuances of his hometown; what he does aim to do is synthesize his environment\'s litany of influences and inspirations into something unique, singular, and all together his own. With his debut studio album At What Cost (Squaaash Club/RCA)--helmed by the monstrous single "Crew"--released in March 2017, he's done just that. By merging the sensibilities of go-go with the African diaspora, he's done what hip-hop has done from its inception: repurpose what's available into something magical. The success of At What Cost and now Triple Platinum single "Crew" saw GoldLink achieve a number of career firsts in the past few months -- from his Grammy nomination for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration to the iHeartMedia Music Awards nomination for Best New Hip-Hop Artist to his BET Awards nomination for Best New Artist.

Badflower At The Deaf Institute (Sold Out)

Badflower don't care what you think about them. They don't care whether you get what theyre doing, because their thoroughly modern rock is more ahead of the curve than anyone else you might try and pigeonhole them with. And they really dont care whether you like the messages in their songs, because what they sing about is important, if uncomfortable. That attitude might seem misguided for a band who have yet to release their debut album. In this age where musics money comes largely from touring, fans are more important than ever - theyre the ones who buy the tickets to shows and ultimately give artists the opportunity to keep playing and progressing. But the LA four-piece arent complete beginners - since forming in 2013, frontman Josh Katz, guitarist Joey Morrow, drummer Anthony Sonetti, and bassist Alex Espiritu have toured relentlessly across the US and beyond, building up a reputation as a formidable live force as well as an ever-growing mass of loyal followers and praise from the likes of Billboard, Forbes, and Consequence Of Sound.

Bros.Landreth / Mon 18 Nov / Night & Day

Before they were The Bros. Landreth, Joey and Dave were only looking for a good excuse to spend a little more time together. They had spent their respective early years backing up other artists and touring the world as hired musicians until one particularly long and challenging tour prompted Joey to call his older brother with a simple proposal. When I get home, lets sit down and make some noise together would be the call that would be the turning point seeing them focus on their own roots rock sound that went on to be celebrated on their acclaimed debut album, Let It Lie. Originally released in their hometown of Winnipeg in 2013, Let It Lie was re-released in 2015 after signing a record deal with Nashville-based Slate Creek Records. The album received widespread acclaim, won multiple awards including a JUNO, and propelled the band to play over 400 tour dates around the world. A Rolling Stone review praised the bands quiet storm of slide guitar solos, blue notes, three part harmonies. Lifelong musical hero, Bonnie Raitt, was equally impressed after catching the bands set, saying "I haven't liked a band as much as The Bros. Landreth in a long time. To hear this kind of funky, southern style rock played with such originality and soul will knock you out." Teaming up in studio with drummer Ryan Voth, guitarist Ariel Posen, and longtime producer Murray Pulver, the soon to be released album is an exciting evolution of the bands sound, honed by thousands of hours on stage and filtered through the lens of the last many years on the road. Weve got hundreds and hundreds of shows and thousands and thousands of miles under our belts. This next record has a confidence that we didnt have - couldnt have with the first. The Bros. Landreths journey took some unexpected turns, but ultimately reaffirmed two brothers earnest desire to make honest music together. Slated for release fall of 2019, the follow up album is called 87, a nod to the real beginning of the band; the year they became brothers.

Dana Gavanski + The Birthmarks / Gullivers, Mcr / Mon 18 Nov

Dana Gavanski is a singer/songwriter currently residing in Toronto. She released her first EP, Spring Demos, in the fall of 2017 via Fox Food Records, a collection of delicate folk songs that she wrote the year before while living in Montreal. Once moving to Toronto, Dana met and began collaborating with some local musicians and is currently working on her first LP to be released in early 2020 via the UK label Full Time Hobby. While still rooted in the intimacy of folk songwriting, Danas new album explores a different sonic texture with the addition of a full band. Born in Vancouver to a Serbian family, but relocating to Montreal to attend university, Dana originally planned to pursue a career in film. However, she shifted her attention back to music when her then ex-partner left her his guitar before moving to NYC. Having known only how to play Diamonds and Rust by Joan Baez, Dana picked up a Travis Picking technique book and started re-learning how to play. When in the summer of 2016, she took a job with her father as a producers assistant on a horror film in the Laurentians, she made enough to focus solely on developing her music for a year. With that came her first EP, Spring Demos. In April 2019, Dana released her debut 7 single One by One b/w Do You? on Full Time Hobby. Dana Gavanski spins her heartbreaking solitude into beauty on One by One The 405 Stately and wistful theres a touch of class to Gavanskis songwriting, the spindling hooks and her fantastic and dulcet vocal tones are framed with twinkling notes in the mid distance God Is In The TV Special guests are The Birthmarks. The Birthmarks are a band based in Manchester, England formed by the twin creative talents of Dylan Hughes and Edwin Stevens, who grew up together in the nearby welsh seaside villages Llanfairfechan and Dwygyfylchi. The pair moved to the North West of England and formed the pop band Sex Hands who established a cult following in the UK before dissolving, resulting in the establishment of The Birthmarks. The band features Alex Hewitt on drums, Bryony Dawson on bass and Henry Wither on keys and guitar, with Dylan and Edwin both playing guitar and vocals. Collectively they are/have been involved in many diverse bands throughout the uk DIY music scene, including but not limited to Irma Vep, Aldous RH, Lovvers, Egyptian Hip Hop and Inland Taipan. As a group they create something both familiar and slightly imperfect, through their process of constructing a melody and then tarnishing it. Tegan & Sara: Albert Hall, Manchester

The Hey, Im Just Like You Tour will feature Tegan and Sara alone on stage in a multi-dimensional show unlike anything they have ever done. Reading and reliving stories from their new memoir High School, performing songs from their new album Hey, Im Just Like You along with T&S classics, and combing through archive video footage from their teenage years this show promises a transcendent night that will both entertain and inspire. High School is Tegan and Saras first memoir, chronicling their teenage years during the height of grunge and rave culture in the 1990s in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The memoir is a bravely honest account of twin sisters growing up down the hall from one another, struggling to figure out their identities, their sexuality, and their futures. While writing High School, Tegan and Sara discovered two cassette tapes with dozens of the first songs they ever wrote between the ages of 15 and 17 tapes that had been unheard for twenty years. Hey, Im Just Like You is made up entirely of new studio recordings of those early songs, recasting Tegan and Saras remarkable innate songwriting talents as teenagers, and allowing these previously unreleased songs to benefit from the studio expertise they have gained in the past two decades as professional musicians. The Hey, Im Just Like You Tour will remind you of all that is uniquely challenging about being a teenager; it will also remind you of that short and singular span of years when the future seems wondrously, enticingly possible. This is the origin story of Tegan and Sara.

Tangerine (Free Screening)

We will be screening TANGERINE (2015) on Tuesday 19th November in the Pink Room at YES. 9:30pm start FREE entry, open to everyone. Tangerine (2015) dir. Sean Baker Tangerine is the story of a day in the life of Sin-Dee and Alexandra, played by Kitana Kiki Rodriguez and Mya Taylor. Sin-Dee, a transgender sex worker, is on a Christmas Eve warpath for her pimp boyfriend, Chester, whos been cheating on her with a cisgender newcomer while Sin-Dee was in prison. Enlisting the less-than-enthusiastic help of best friend Alexandra, Sin-Dee tears through a string of local haunts, creating smart-mouthed chaos as she searches for the errant lovers while Alexandra attempts to ready herself (no drama!) for an evening singing gig. Shot entirely on iPhone 5s cameras, Tangerine caused a major stir upon its release not just for its shattering of conventional filmmaking techniques, but also as a major leap for representation of transgender people on film. This film ties directly into our November reading where we are looking at FEMALES, a new exploration into gender and femaleness from trans writer Andrea Long Chu, as well as work by Sally Hines and Judith Butler. If youd like to join our meeting (open to self-identifying women & non-binary people) before the film, or if youd simply like links to the reading, send us a DM!

Gabriela Montero (piano) / Original Voices

Robert Schumann Kinderszenen Op 15 Scenes from Childhood Chick Corea Selections from Childrens Songs Gabriela Montero Scenes from Childhood Dmitri Shostakovich Piano Sonata No 2 in B minor Op 61 Gabriela Montero Improvisations Monteros playing has everything: crackling rhythmic brio, subtle shadings, steely power in climactic moments, soulful lyricism in the ruminative passages and, best of all, unsentimental expressivity. New York Times Venezuelan pianist Gabriela Montero is a truly original artist who forges a deep connection with her audience. In addition to her visionary interpretations of core piano repertoire, she is also celebrated for her ability to improvise, composing and playing new works in real time. She says: I connect to my audience in a completely new way and they connect with me. Because improvisation is such a huge part of who I am, it is the most natural and spontaneous way I can express myself. She regularly invites her audience to choose themes and ideas on which she improvises to date, she has tackled everything from Lady Gaga to Baa Baa Black Sheep! Youll get the chance to test Gabrielas improvising talents at the end of the evening, following her interpretations of scenes from childhood as seen through the eyes of various composers. Part of the RNCM Original Voices series.

Blanco White At The Deaf Institute, Manchester

Blanco White started as the solo project of Londoner Josh Edwards in 2014. After studying guitar in Cdiz (Spain), and later the Andean instrument the charango in Sucre (Bolivia), Edwards aim was to begin bringing together elements of Andalusian and Latin American music alongside influences closer to home. The result is beyond exotic; it\'s otherworldly. He released his self-produced debut EP The Wind Rose on Yucatan Records in early 2016. He recorded his second EP Colder Heavens later that same year, with producer Ian Grimble (Bear's Den, Matt Corby, Daughter), and released it last spring to critical delight. The Nocturne EP was released on the 29th September 2018. Blanco White is currently working on his debut album and will be playing live at The Deaf Institute Tuesday 19th November,

An Evening With Thor And Friends At The Star And Garter

The Beauty Witch presents Thor & Friends More tba An evening of music and conversation with former Swans drummer Thor Harris. Thor is like a caveman. From the future. He\'s at once terrifying and the most gentle soul ever... Incredibly empathetic, but he will punch a Nazi without hesitation. He ran for governor of Texas, "cause, fuck this" He is one of the most self-aware and agile artists we have ever worked with. He has the musical curiosity of an uncorrupted child. He makes crushingly honest videos about depression. His Twitter handle is @ThorHarris666, but your grandmother would still adore him. He is inclusive to the extreme. As demonstrated by the fact that he spur-of-the-moment-contributed to nearly every track on our 2018 Holiday Sampler. From his home in Austin TX, he works as a plumber and woodworker. He helps to build homes for those in need, while combatting runaway gentrification. He is a literal pillar of the Austin community.

David Thomas Broughton + Bell Lungs / Gullivers / Tue 19 Nov

Were delighted to be helping David Thomas Broughton celebrate 15 years since his debut album was released! This show and a limited edition vinyl re-issue celebrates the 15-year anniversary of David Thomas Broughtons acclaimed debut The Complete Guide To Insufficiency. Originally released in 2004 by Birdwar Records in the UK, Complete Guide soon got a USA release on Plug Research in 2005. The music has been re-mastered, and the tracks slightly reordered to fit onto this special vinyl LP version. Birdwar Records was launched in order to release this album the labels wish was to try and capture Davids current set at the time, an early, far less performative version of what would become his brilliant and unpredictable live shows. They decided not to record a second take, it was done, a wonderfully imperfect document with just the right amount of insufficiency. Basically flawless Tiny Mix Tapes Bizarre masterpiece Aquarium Drunkard Special guest is experimental vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Bell Lungs. Bell Lungs weaves layered vocal harmonies and instrumental loops together into a psychedelic, post-folk soundscape that draws on natural cycles, environmental disaster and the microcosmic aspects of relationships. Her vocals were deemed elemental by cult arts critic David Keenan of The Wire, and her song Mosul Dam released by Sonido Polifonico, on a split 7? with psychedelic-folk songstress Pefkin on the flip was described as disarming and demurring by Losing Today. She is known for collaborating with poets, scientists, kinetic sculptures, artists, dancers, film and theatre-makers, and has performed in the UK, USA, Spain, Germany and Italy, in venues common and uncommon, including art galleries, museums, double-decker buses, ancient ruins, a disused grain silo and a hydroelectric power station. Hollow Coves Live At YES (The Pink Room)

Wednesday 20th November Hollow Coves + guests The Pink Room A dynamic indie folk group brimming with the bands passion for travel and observing different shades of the world, Hollow Coves is the project of Ryan Henderson and Matt Carins. After meeting in 2013 through mutual friends and a shared love of acoustic music, the boys began writing together with no real expectations for where it might lead. And now, three years later, Ryan and Matts memories from their travels across all corners of the globe have lead to a range of new music influenced by their journeys. Quoting influences such as Angus & Julia Stone, Ben Howard, & The Paper Kites, the boys are setting out to deliver their own brand of indie folk. Blending an earthy folk sound, acoustic melodies & vocal harmonies; Matt and Ryan take turns delivering lyrics of reflection, frequently harmonizing as their voices blend together and complement each other. Initially based out of Brisbane, Australia, Hollow Coves first self-released tracks saw the bare bones of three songs recorded at home in Brisbane. Then as the boys went traveling, the songs slowly took their shape as Ryan and Matt, on opposite sides of the world at this point, bounced ideas back and forth over the internet with their good friend and producer Hayden Smith. When they eventually unveiled their debut track, The Woods, Ryan was finishing up a snowboarding stint in Canada while Matt was halfway through a European odyssey, and neither of them was even half expecting the response they received. The Woods reached #1 on both Hype Machine and THR\'s Top TV Songs chart and has since gone on to receive millions of plays across the globe. Now, with the first illustration of the boys unique approach to creating music, and a full-length album in the works, alongside some of the biggest gigs of their young lives rapidly approaching, Hollow Coves is ready to launch you into their personal brand of escapism.

Tusks + Lindsay Munroe / Gullivers, Manchester / Wed 20 Nov

Its fitting that Avalanche, the new album from songwriter/producer Emily Underhill, is threaded with uplifting lyrics about knowing yourself and overcoming obstacles. After all, the road to this record was filled with adversity for the acclaimed Londoner, who creates atmospheric, arresting indie electronica under the name Tusks. In January 2018, she suffered a serious elbow break; I was distraught, she recalls. I had to prepare for the possibility I might not be able to play guitar or piano properly again. 12 months and two operations later, though, comes Avalanche an album that overspills with grit and glacial beauty. Beloved by Lauren Laverne, Annie Mac, Wonderland, MixMag, The Line of Best Fit, DIY and many more, the musician has big plans for 2019 following Avalanches release. After entertaining 2,000-strong rooms on a 2017 tour with renowned Icelandic singer-songwriter sgeir in support of her debut album Dissolve, plans are afoot to bring Tusks powerful live show and new album to more stages this year. Local support comes from Lindsay Munroe. Lindsay Munroe is a captivating new alt-indie artist based in Manchester. Bold and unflinchingly honest, she pairs swelling synths and swaggering guitars with painfully introspective lyrics, evoking acts like Sharon Van Etten, Laura Marling and Marika Hackman. At once assured and startlingly vulnerable, her music invites you into her world, but on her terms. Price: 7 adv Info/tickets: https://www.heymanchester.com/tusks

Blood Red Shoes - Manchester, Gorilla

If you'll excuse the idiom, Blood Red Shoes have been through hell and back. Accidents, heartbreak and a career curse have plagued the Brighton duo on the road to their new LP, the appropriately-, knowingly-titled Get Tragic. I dont even know when this began, laughs Laura-Mary Carter, nervously. It feels like a lifetime. Relentlessly gigging off the back of their 2014 self-produced and self-titled record, the heels finally fell off of Blood Red Shoes at the end of that same year. We finished touring and then we Laura breaks off, we werent sure if we were gonna be a band anymore. Drummer Steven Ansell interjects with his habitual bluntness: We fuckin hated each other, is what youre politely trying to say. A near-decade of incessant road time and a non-stop pace of life finally took its toll, they explain. Stopping only to quickly hammer out another ten songs to release as their next record, before ploughing straight back into touring, the pair exhausted themselves to the point of collapse. We didnt, at any point, have a breather, says Steven, We probably didnt see each other for about 10 days a year, tops, for six or seven years. Understandably, such incessant close proximity led to implosion. We got the to the end of the fourth record and were like, Fuck you, I never want to see you again, Steven adds, half-laughing, half-sighing. Laura packed her bags and bought a one-way flight to Los Angeles, a complete radio-silence between the two bandmates stretching on for months. She fell in with a songwriters crowd, penning tracks and collaborations with big-time pop producers and pitching songs for the likes of Rihanna. It provided her with a lot of time to reassess, she says. Steven, conversely, went out and took drugs and went clubbing for about half a year, he laughs. I dont remember a lot about it. Classic break-up move, right? Thats the whole running theme of this record, says Steven. The reason we called it Get Tragic is because we realised that everything weve been doing over the last three years is kinda tragic! he says, prompting laughter from the pair. Just like, Ooh, I hate you, Im going to America to find myself, and like Ooh, Im gonna party for the rest of the year! Everything about it is such a clich we were like, Weve turned into a fuckin tragedy! Get Tragic, then, fully embraces the absurdity of Blood Red Shoes situation. As a result, the pair come out the other side sounding fresher and more assured than ever. It got to a point where it was like, if this is gonna work, weve gotta change everything, stresses Laura, while Steve adds that at one point, they even considered ditching the band name. Recording in the States, working with a new producer, ditching the two-piece rock rulebook they arguably helped write - everything that went into Get Tragic was a leap into the unknown. So, we decided we were gonna do that, says Laura, and then everything from that point has been a total disaster. If you thought a near-break up was the be-all and end-all of Blood Red Shoes tragedy, youre not even part-way there. Their first move, post-reconciliation? A writing retreat in rural Wales, which saw them woken up by the village community leaders, who entered the house while they were sleeping and banished them from town, fearful of the rock groups proximity to the local church. It was literally one step away from like, pitchforks, says Steven. The road was called Dark Lane, adds Laura, Like, for fucks sake. Regrouping once more and booking in some more sessions in Leeds, Steven took a phone call a few days before round two. Laura had broken her arm. I fell off a motorbike, she explains. I didnt tell anyone I didnt post anything about it, but the fact is I had a broken arm for a long time. Throughout it all, they went through a conveyor belt of managers and manager firings, the group falling out with everyone around them as they attempted to rebuild their core, two-way relationship. One of those managers led us into a record deal that was really fucked, and we shouldnt have signed, explains Steven. The subsequent fallout and legal trouble financially crippled them both. As that period came to a close, Laura went through a romantic break-up that still visibly affects her. We were finally getting there, says Laura, and I was like, No dont let this happen too. You know how bands get a difficult second record? We got a difficult fifth record, says Steven. There couldn't have been anything else against us, the whole damn time starting with ourselves. Remarkably, though, Laura's broken arm proved to be a blessing in plaster-clad disguise. Leaving her unable to play guitar, it prompted the longtime-guitarist to pick up a keyboard, and sing more than she ever had before. Through mishap and misfortune, the songs that came out of the sessions were the duos light at the end of the ever-expanding tunnel. They decamped to L.A. to record with Nick Launay (Yeah Yeah Yeahs / Arcade Fire / Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds). He pushed them to explore these new worlds even further, and as such the the after-effects of Laura's motorbike tragedy can be heard throughout Get Tragic more melodic and synth-led than any of the bands records to date, it embraces electronics and nuance in a way their stripped-back and stomping two-piece rock sound of old never could have. That was where it started to make sense, says Steven. It was like, How do we combine our songwriting with electronics and keyboards? We wanted to have the soul of a rock band, but change the style so it was more interesting, more groovy, and more sexy and less like everybody else! I started to feel like all rock music around us was one shade of one colour. Laura agrees: I really find the music industry, and just culture in general, has a sheep mentality. Like, Is it okay to like this? You just need to have a mind of your own. Whether people like it or not, were at least trying to do something that isnt of the moment or whatever. Through disaster and dismay, Blood Red Shoes have emerged reinvigorated. Every incident has fed into a record of defiance and self-acceptance. Knowingly embracing the tragedy of their movements, and the clarity at the end of such woe they even laugh at the very idea of having a picture of themselves on the cover Get Tragic is a total reimagining of the Blood Red Shoes you might think you know.

Nu Jazz: Ask My Bull / Morpher / Freese Trio / Trampette

Speak No Evil Presents: Nu Jazz - A showcase of the most exciting genre-bending new music in Manchester. Jazz // Hip Hop // Fusion // Beats // Folk // Electronica // Experimental Ask My Bull - A musical chimera that combines the visceral energy of punk, the danceability of drum'n'bass and the intriguing nuance of jazz: Ask My Bull is delightfully hyperactive and cinematically epic. Morpher - Born in Leeds, fusing acoustic instruments with electronic effects, they blend their traditional Jazz upbringing with hints of Drum and Bass, HipHop and ambient electronic music. With influences from the current London Jazz, LA beat makers and underground New York electronic scenes, they successfully forge a mix of Jazz, post-punk and live electronica. freese trio are a triphop electronica grunge band whose compositions explore inner demons and difficult truths; through twisted lyricism and layered sounds they create a dark beauty. Audiences are taken on a journey of self-reflection through darkness, and back out into the light, creating a mesmerising trance and encouraging the release of suppressed emotions. Their combination of hypnotic drum patterns, bold sub-bass riffs, dense eerie harmony and daring yet intricate vocals is what gives them their distinct sound. Trampette - Having each studied jazz, they decided to form the band in order to explore their love of groove music, inspired by artists such as Yussef Kamaal, Makaya McCraven, and Herbie Hancock. They give high-energy performances designed to get people dancing, and recently supported Alfa Mist at Hare and Hounds. Richard Dawson + Alexander Tucker At The RNCM Concert Hall

Grey Lantern are delighted to welcome back RICHARD DAWSON + special guest Alexander Tucker at the RNCM - Royal Northern College of Music (Concert Hall) Richard Dawson, the black-humoured bard of Newcastle, returns to release his sixth solo album 2020, his first since the critically acclaimed, Peasant. 2020 out on 11 th October 2019 - is an utterly contemporary state-of-the-nation study, that uncovers a tumultuous and bleak time. Here is an island country in a state of flux; a society on the edge of mental meltdown. On 2020, Dawson introduces us to grand themes through small lives. His are portraits of human beings struggling with recognisable (and dare we say it, relatable) concerns, conflicts and desires, each reminding us that tragedy and gallows humour are not mutually exclusive, and that the magical can sit next to the mundane. Lyrically it is by far Dawsons hardest-hitting and unflinchingly honest album to date. It is his poetic masterwork. Within, we find disgruntled civil servants dreaming of better days, anxiety-addled joggers listlessly searching Zoopla for houses they cannot afford in their spare time, amateur footballers who think theyre Lionel Messi and beleaguered pub landlords battling rising floodwaters. Here is life, in all its strange and wonderful ways.

Emmanuel Jal & Nyaruach At Soup Kitchen, Manchester

Emmanuel Jal & Nyaruach at Soup Kitchen, Manchester Thursday 21st November "South Sudan is still suffering from years of war and oppression, we feel it is our cultural responsibility to bring out the music and voices from our country. As siblings we were forced apart in our childhood through extreme circumstances, so we are excited to be united on this project to bring the sounds of our village to the mainstream." Emmanuel Jal: Juno-nominated musician, actor, and campaigner releases his sixth studio album NAATH; a stunning joint collaboration with his hugely talented sister, Nyaruach. NAATH is a vivacious, afrobeat-infused album with Emmanuel and Nyaruach drawing strongly on the unique sounds of their country; interweaving traditional folklore and love songs - alongside infectious dance tunes. NAATH is the ancient word for the land and language surrounding the glorious Kingdom of Kush. Carefully choosing this theme - Jal and Nyaruach's music is often at odds with the image of war and poverty that has blighted South Sudan. Instead, both artists choose to reflect upon the resilience and rich culture of their identity through their vibrant tones and messaging. From his start in life as a child soldier in the war-torn region of Southern Sudan in the early 1980s, Emmanuel Jal has come through huge personal struggles to become a successful and acclaimed recording artist and peace ambassador now living in Toronto, Canada. Emmanuel's sister Nyaruach was also born in South Sudan at a similar time and was separated from the rest of her immediate family, including Jal, at the age of four. As years went on, the war intensified, she witnessed her family members killed and was raped by government officials. It wasn't until 2004 that she was finally reunited with Jal in Nairobi. Unfortunately due to renewed violence in South Sudan and threats upon her life, Nyaruach has been forced to live in Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya where she has an uncertain future. Emmanuel and Nyaruach have recorded together on Emmanuel\'s break out single Gua, which stands for peace in their native Nuer tongue which was broadcast by the BBC across Africa and became a hit in Kenya in 2005. The two have since performed together in Kenya for Oxfam and South Sudan for the first of its kind peace concert with Daryl 'DMC' McDaniels organised by Emmanuel's non-profit organisation 'We Want Peace.' Despite immense obstacles, Emmanuel and Nyaruach have now finalised their first album together with the release of their first music video Ti-Chuong - shot on location in Kenya. The track is an upbeat dance song, drawing on the unique and rarely heard sounds and traditional afrobeat from South Sudan. Emmanuel and Nyaruach are both keen to work with additional producers and DJs to remix and reinterpret the music to bring it to a larger audience. This is a standing show. By arrangement with Primary Talent International.

Beatnik Collective Presents // The Ghost

The Beatnik Collective presents; The Ghost, The Molecule, Frenchy and Rossa. Josh Tweek and James Creed are renowned for being some of the most fanatical diggers in the industry and this is obvious in their ever intelligent, ethereal performances. Filled with the most sought after cuts and white labels, these guys have taken this craft to a new level, and we are lucky to welcome them to Manchester. Next up, we have. E-Numbers big fella Bobby ODonnell and Zutekhs own Daniel Quixano Henriques have come together to forge a sonic alliance that will take some serious beating. Anyone who witnessed Bobby tear Nightpeople down at our first party are in for a treat when they see how well Daniel complements the party. Frenchy laid down comfortably one of the best sets we were lucky enough to witness at Gottwood. You only need to look at the line up to get a feel for what a testament that is to this absolute gent. He fully justified the praise weve heard from some of our beloved scenes biggest selectors. Preceding Frenchy will be another artist of the highest calibre, Rossa. A staple and pioneer of Manchesters scene for years, one half of KRS Two and co-founder of Turnout, this manically busy aficionado will be bringing his passion and unique energy to Beatnik, and were fizzing to watch him do it. Once again, if we make any profit from this party it will be passed to Young Minds, a charity that provides mental health support and education for young people. Omar Apollo - The Speed Of Sound Tour

After dropping out of college only 2 weeks in, Omar Apollo, a 20-year old, first generation Mexican-American singer from Indiana, began writing and recording his own mix of jazz, R&B, funk, alternative, soul, and pop music. His parents moved to the US to give their kids a better life and the opportunity to go to college; however, Omar always knew this route wasnt meant for him. He began playing guitar at 12 years old, but quit soon after because he got bored of only playing in church. At age 18, Omar began listening to new styles of music and fell in love with the guitar again. His biggest influences are Benny Sings, D\'angelo, Los Panchos, John Mayer, Elliott Smith, Cuco Sanchez, Paul Simon, Gary Numan, and Joao Gilberto. Omar released his debut EP STEREO this summer featuring songs in both English and Spanish.

Silk Cuts: K-Lone

We're back, and ready to do it all over again! We've been basking in the glory of our last party and Tryphme's performance for a few days, now it's time to move on to the next one. For our next outing we've decided to book one of our favourite artists, someone who truly epitomises our ethos of not respecting genre boundaries: K-Lone. K-Lone's productions range from wobbly UKG, dubstep and electro bangers to more sombre dub techno and downtempo tracks. His DJ sets are even more unpredictable, making him the perfect fit for a Silk Cuts party. If the thought of this has got you excited then you\'ll be delighted to hear we've given him 3 hours to delve deep into his collection. Support provided from Silk Cuts resident Silkman.

Girls In Synthesis + Eric Random Live In Manchester

Interior Presents: Girls In Synthesis have quickly forged a fearsome reputation as one of the most exciting and volatile live acts in London. In equal parts frantic, considered, ear-splitting and melodic, the group take their cues from the early DIY punk and post-punk pioneers to keep everything in-house; artwork, videos, performances and recordings are created entirely by the group and their handful of trusted collaborators, with their 3 hand-packaged vinyl E.P releases selling out in days on pre-orders. Experimentation sees them transgress the punk bracket into something more original and unique while stage shows present a complete and controlled spectacle, with the group moving from playing on stage to dragging equipment into the audience, desperately trying to remove the group/audience barrier. Their explosive shows have seen them hand picked for support slots with bands as disparate as Bad Breeding, Slaves, Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, Wolf Alice, Warmduscher and Damo Suzuki. Recent EP compilation Pre/Post: A Collection 2016-2018 saw glowing reviews from outlets such as Louder Than War, Echoes and Dust and Ox Magazine and, after selling out its initial run, is planned for re-issue in September 2019. With new material scheduled for release in Fall/Winter 2019, the band are spending the summer finishing off their debut album proper, pencilled in for an early 2020 release. + Eric Random TICKETS AVAILABLE ONLINE VIA SEETICKETS https://www.seetickets.com/event/girls-in-synthesis-eric-random/the-castle-hotel/1414989

New Model Army | 22nd November 2019 - O2 Ritz MCR

NEW MODEL ARMY In October 1980 three musicians took to the stage in their hometown of Bradford to play a gig under the name New Model Army. Led by frontman and songwriter Justin Sullivan, this was the start of a remarkable journey which, almost 40 years on, has seen New Model Army develop a fervent worldwide fanbase and reach multiple milestones of both creative and commercial success. Members have changed over the years and musical styles have evolved but at the heart of the band Justin has remained, along with a distinct and sincere belief in the power of music to inspire and effect change on a personal and political scale, both locally and globally. With the bands hugely acclaimed albums Between Dog And Wolf (2013) and Winter (2016) bringing renewed critical appreciation, chart success and an ever-growing audience of new fans to join the legion of faithful devotees, New Model Army return in 2019 with one of the finest records of their career From Here to be released in August followed by a 38-date UK & European tour visiting 11 countries. From Here was recorded in early 2019 on the tiny Norwegian island of Giske at the beautiful Ocean Sound Recordings studio and reflects the spectacular isolation of that environment yet has profound messages for the world we all live in and the times we are experiencing. www.newmodelarmy.org

The Centre Is Everywhere: Manchester

His music is a breath on the wind. His music is light dancing on water. His music is a lovers whisper in the dead of night. It is both beautiful and strange. This season, were very proud to be touring a new work by Edmund Finnis. Its called The Centre is Everywhere, and we gave the first ever performance of it this summer, at the Southbank Centre in London. Now, were bringing this mysterious and beautiful object on tour, to be performed in seven cities by the full Manchester Collective lineup - eleven solo string players. Alongside Edmunds iridescent and compelling music (The Guardian), the show also features an unholy mashup of Ligetis Mtamorphosen Nocturnes and Vivaldis Four Seasons, performed by our very own Rakhi Singh. We close the show with Richard Strauss devastating Metamorphosen - a piece of music written by an old, dying man during the last months of the Second World War. The piece is an elegy for Europe. Metamorphosen is a piece weve wanted to play for a long time - its a real Mount Everest for string players - and we cant wait to share it with you in this, our largest and most ambitious programme to date. Hulme & Greenheys Community History Day

Join us in a day of celebration of Hulme & Greenheys diverse history. We are a group of grassroots historians, residents and academics who have come together to explore the history of our area. Weve organised this day to help us understand how the four waves of rapid redevelopment over the last 100 years have affected us all, for better and worse. There will be lots of hands-on activities, an archeological surveying walk, talks on a wide variety of local history topics, and a free lunch open to all. We want everyone to share their stories, learn how research their histories, and have plenty of time for discussion and sharing. Please bring along anything relating to the history of the area you think deserves a wider audience such as photos, artifacts, memories, or the address you used to live. Weve kept a few slots for talks open so please get in touch if you have anything you want to present. We will also be recording oral histories throughout the day and invite anyone who wishes to to tell their story to have it documented by a trained historian. Our goal is to collectively submit a funding bid in 2020 to both continue to develop the connections made through this event, and create a community-led archive of all the history projects in our neighbourhood. Event details 11am - 11:15am. Coffee, tea, and croissants. 11:15am - 1:00pm. John Piprani & Irene Garcia Rovira will lead an archeological survey of the Greenheys estate, with commentary from local history experts. Bring along any photos or maps of where you used to live and we will see if we can find where they would be now using GPS. Were hoping to use this information to make a 3D map of the Greenheys estate. John is an archeologist who organises community workshops making stone age tools. Irene works for Archeology England, who are based right next door in the science park. https://learningthroughmakingblog.wordpress.com/ 1:00pm - 1:45pm. Complimentary lunch. We will cater for vegan, vegetarian and gluten free diets, please get in touch if you have any other requirements. 1:45pm - 2pm. Die Krupps // Viral // Night People Manchester

Due to the Nitzer-Ebb.com show being announced and because of several requests we have agreed to make the stage time for Die Krupps later so Nitzer Ebb finishes at 10pm and Die Krupps will come onstage at 10.30pm! The other club is just 5 mins walk so now people can see both bands! There will also be a EBM - Synthpop - Futurepop - Industrial Club with Dj\'s after until approximately 3am at no extra charge! We will now open an hour later at 8pm and there will be supports acts on from 8.30pm! DIE KRUPPS BIOGRAPHY: Long before RAMMSTEIN dominated the Industrial Metal wastelands of today, the original Metal Machine Music Maestros DIE KRUPPS were forging a new style of Industrial Machine music, they were formed in Dsseldorf in 1980 by Juergen Engler and Ralf Dorper. Theres no question that German bands like Die Krupps and Einsturzede Neubatten were having an ever bigger influence on the burgeoning synth and metal scenes most notably with acts like Depeche Mode, Nitzer Ebb, Ministry and Rammstein. Over the years they have produced krautrock-tinged metalbashing industrial, old-school ebm, industrial electro and, most recently, industrial metal/neue deutsche hrte. The band\'s name comes from the Krupp dynasty - one of pre-war Germanys main industrial families. This name was apparently chosen for its industrial connotations, as the band is strongly anti-Nazi. In some interviews the band stated that Viscontis movie "The Damned" - a depiction of the fictitious German industrial dynasty of the Essenbecks - was the main inspiration. Die Krupps\'s debut EP, 1981\'s Stahlwerkssymphony, was in the vein of metal-on-metal industrial acts like Einstrzende Neubauten. Their following album, 1982\'s Volle Kraft Voraus, combined the industrial sound of their debut with electronic rhythms similar to DAF. In 1984, the group released their first English-language album, Entering the Arena, which combined grand, orchestral arrangements with their trademark metallic percussion and a more conventional synthpop sound. Doerper left to join Propaganda, and Die Krupps went on hiatus for a few years. In 1989, they collaborated with Nitzer Ebb a band their sound had clearly influenced to remake Volle Kraft Voraus\'s "Wahre Arbeit, Wahrer Lohn" as "The Machineries of Joy." The single was a major club hit,and it resparked interest in the band, who followed in 1990 with the now-classic "Germaniac" single. However, Engler had become interested in American and European heavy metal, and subsequent Die Krupps releases would gradually de-emphasize the band\'s industrial/electronic origins. A Tribute to Metallicaan album of Metallica cover versions done with only keyboards and samplerswas something of a novelty hit that got the band signed (briefly) to a US major label. In 1992, Engler reunited with Doerper and added some American heavy metal musicians to the lineup, and Die Krupps began to utilize guitars and more sounds derived from heavy metal music, with the release of their albums I and IIThe Final Option. During this period, the band had many of their tracks remixed by other artists; singles such as "Fatherland", "Metal Machine Music", "To the Hilt", and "Crossfire" were reworked by artists as diverse as The Sisters of Mercy, Einstrzende Neubautenand Biohazard. These remixes proved more successful than the albums from which they were drawn, as they became staples of mid-90s alternative clubs. Many of these remixes are included on the compilations The Final Remixes and Rings of Steel, as well as their mid-90s singles issued by Cleopatra Records. Particularly notable is a 1996 remix EP they shared with Front Line Assembly, on which each group remixed three songs from the other: while Krupps\'s remixes of FLA were typical of the band\'s metallic direction, FLA\'s Krupps remixes surprisingly highlighted how Die Krupps\'s sound still recalled the band\'s early electronic work. By 1996\'s IIIOdyssey of the Mind, the band had almost entirely ditched electronics for a straight metal sound. Following Doerper\'s second departure and the release of the even more heavily metal-influenced album "Paradise Now" in 1997, the band disbanded. The band has been well-served by two compilations that highlight their strongest material and the development of the band\'s sound: Past Forward 1991-1981, released on Mute\'s Grey Area imprint, is a worthy precis of the band\'s work up to and including "Germaniac". Cleopatra\'s Metalmorphosis of Die Krupps covers some of the same ground, but includes highlights from their post-Metallica output. While both compilations share several tracks, they usually choose different mixes. Die Krupps played a reunion show at Wave Gothic Treffen festival at 2005 for their 25th anniversary. Expected in fall 2007 are 2 releases to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Die Krupps plus an extra release combining both. The reason to make two different best of albums is because the band wanted to separate its electro years from its metal years. As a result we will get "Too Much History - The Electro Years Vol. 1" and "Too Much History - The Metal Years Vol. 2", both in digipak format. Next to these two releases there is also the 2CD set "Too Much History" combining both previous mentioned best of compilations. The German electronic pioneers Die Krupps are re-releasing two classic albums "Volle Kraft Voraus" and "I" by the end of August 2008. May 21st, 2012 - Industrie-Mdchen reached top of the DAC! (i.e. Deutsche Alternative Charts) Industrie-Mdchen is the title of the new single, which is a cover version of a song by the German punk band S.Y.P.H., a band Ralf Drper was member of for a few month in 1979, contributing the vocals to one track of their first EP Viel Feind, viel Ehr.

La Discothque 3rd Birthday

We're turning three! It feels like only yesterday that the inaugural La Discothque sold out Albert Hall back in November 2016. Since then weve flown the flamingo across the UK and beyond, taking the disco debauchery to Leeds, Newcastle, London, Brighton, Croatia, Ibiza, and many more! But on Saturday 23rd November we return to our spiritual home Albert Hall, with a star-studded lineup featuring faces both old and new, as well as our fabulous flamingos, queens and soul sergeants. Leading the Birthday celebrations is a live PA from Disco legend Alicia Myers, best known for her smash hit I Want To Thank You, who must be performing in Manchester for the first time in well over a decade. Joining her are two of our firm favourites; Chicago House legend Derrick Carter, and the DJ so good the Queen gave him an MBE, Norman Jay (MBE)! Were also delighted to have Rob da Bank bring his Purple Rave Prince tribute to La Discothque for the first time, alongside some very special guests still to be announced, and local heroes Bad Fun. Please note that our last Manchester party sold out well in advance so please buy quickly to avoid disappointment! ALICIA MYERS (LIVE / PA) We've had some incredible live PAs over the three years; Jocelyn Brown, Evelyn Champagne King, Candi Staton The live element has been integral to our parties and we wanted more! Were therefore over the moon to reveal that Disco legend Alicia Myers will hopping across the Atlantic for what must be her first Manchester show in at least a decade! Best known for her smash hit I Want To Thank You, the Detroit divas been sampled by everyone from Theo Parrish to Kanye West , but were super excited to hear the original live in all its glory! DERRICK CARTER Derricks back and hes doing Disco! The Chicago House legend is a firm favourite here at La Discothque HQ and despite flying the flag for us all over the UK - he memorably headlined our debut London show to a sold out Printworks London - hes not actually played for us in Manchester in almost three years Would you believe it!? It simply wouldnt be a birthday without him. ROB DA BANK'S PURPLE RAVE Wouldn't be a disco without a spot of Prince, fortunately weve got it in spades! BBC Radio 1 DJ and Bestival co-founder Rob da Bank continues the fine tradition of Prince tributes weve had here at La Discothque, bringing his Purple Rave show to Manchester for the very first time. NORMAN JAY MBE The DJ so good the Queen gave him an MBE! Rare groove pioneer Norman Jay (MBE) is one of the most accomplished and celebrated DJs in British history and has over fifty years experience under his belt - he played his first gig at a cousins birthday when he was only eight years old - and even DJd at Mick Jaggers 50th! Clearly well-versed in birthday parties - and another of our regulars we haven't had back in Manchester for a while - he was one of the first names on the team sheet! + LA PISCOTHQUE W/ BAD FUN Our very own toilet rave is back and weve invited along the aptly-named Bad Fun! Get ready to lose your sh*t! + VERY SPECIAL GUESTS TBA As always well be announcing some very special guests closer to the show date! Keep em peeled

SOLD OUT: Ezra Collective - Manchester, Gorilla

Ezra Collective have announced a UK tour. The new dates - which culminate in a hometown finale at Londons Roundhouse - are listed below and on sale from Thursday (18th April). The announcement comes ahead of Ezra Collectives debut album, You Can't Steal My Joy, out next Friday, 26th April. The exuberant LP features Jorja Smith, KOKOROKO and Loyle Carner, and looks destined to cement the band\'s status as one of the UKs most exciting groups. Drne: Nitzer Ebb Live / Liebknecht Live/ Spit Mask Live

Drne are excited to be bringing EBM legends Nitzer-Ebb.com to Manchester for a live gig in November. Britain's Nitzer Ebb are one of the most influential acts associated with the EBM (electronic body music) scene, as well as alternative dance in general. Since the early \'80s, the group, led by enthusiastic frontman Douglas McCarthy, have produced an aggressive, visceral brand of electronic music influenced by German industrial and new wave groups like D.A.F. The group remains best known for the classic "Join in the Chant," a single taken from 1987\'s That Total Age that has became a staple of dance clubs from Detroit to Berlin. Support comes in the form of Liebknecht, a project of Daniel Myer (Haujobb, Rendered, Architect, DSTR). Daniel Myer's new project Liebknecht combines his many aliases into a well composed vision of techno soundscapes. Taking his background from Rendered, Haujobb, Architect & influences from the current Clubscene, he has created an epic journey that is distinctly his own. Daniel's recent debut, "ICE Over Erfurt" on Lenny Dee's techno imprint (Hard Electronic) has been getting support from Thomas P. Heckmann (OFFICIAL), Black Asteroid, Aquarian & Deapmash, Alessandro Adriani, THE HACKER. His forthcoming EP on Hard Electronic was be released late April, just in time for his tour support for the legendary Nitzer Ebb. Just added to the bill, an act we've always wanted to bring to Drne. We're really stoked to be doing this - Spit Mask is an industrial project residing in Berlin, Germany consisting of Bryan and Rachel Jackson, both on vox and electronics. The synth driven pair mix early industrial with modern machines to create a torrent of hate, love, and sex. Their debut was released on Clan Destine Records and their new album titled You May Feel Some Pressure was released this month through [aufnahme + wiedergabe]. Representing Drne between live acts will be a special EBM set from none other than Kenny Campbell of Pitch Dark Records.

Babybird At Jimmy's Liverpool

Babybird plus special guests Tickets : https://bit.ly/2XKiibd Babybird began as the alias of Stephen Jones, a prolific British singer/songwriter who initiated his performing career as a member of the Dogs in Honey "anti-theater" troupe. After buying a four-track machine, he began making his first lo-fi home recordings; over the next several years, he wrote some 400 eclectic pop songs, ranging in content from surreal, comic narratives to intensely personal meditations. Fatherhood At the urging of friends, Jones sent out Baby Bird tapes to record companies, but his music was roundly rejected; however, Chrysalis Music did offer a publishing deal which Jones accepted, applying his earnings toward financing a series of independently released, limited-edition collections. The first disc of material culled from the vast Baby Bird archives, I Was Born a Man, appeared in 1995; within the course of a year, three other acclaimed albums -- Bad Shave, Fatherhood, and The Happiest Man Alive -- followed, and won Jones a contract with Echo Records. Ugly Beautiful Upon making the leap to a major label, Baby Bird mutated from a one-man project into a full band, as Jones assembled a backing group comprised of guitarist Luke Scott, bassist John Pedder, keyboardist Hugh Chadbourne, and drummer Rob Gregory. In its new incarnation, Baby Bird debuted in late 1996 with Ugly Beautiful, a lush, sparkling collection of re-recordings of favorite songs from Jones\' back catalog, all selected by fans by means of postcard ballots included in the first four albums. Dying Happy In 1997, Dying Happy was assembled; issued in a limited pressing of 1,000 copies, the disc compiled a number of previously unreleased songs that Jones had kicking around. There\'s Something Going On followed in 1998, and two years passed until the release of Bugged, Baby Bird\'s ninth full-length.

The Lumineers Live At Manchester Arena

DHP Family Proudly Presents... The Lumineers + SOAK Live at Manchester Arena Sunday 24th November 14+ On The Lumineers audacious new album, III, every note, every syllable, and every moment of silence in between is emotionally charged. The work is titled III not just because its The Lumineers third full-length album, but more significantly because nine songs are presented in three chapters, each focusing on one of three main characters. III is so taut in its narrative progression that one might assume it was created with premeditation, but that couldnt be further from the truth. On the contrary, the work willed itself into existence out of a series of seemingly unconnected elements that magically locked together into a coherent whole.

The industrys most recognisable voice, Chali 2na, and turntable wizard Krafty Kuts have been not-so-secretly preparing this project since 2017 through over 150 live shows and countless studio sessions. The time has finally come to grab your capes, don a pair of tights and load up the turntable ready for the show to begin. This is Adventures Of A Reluctant Super Hero prepare for the Purple Assassin and the Scratchman as they come and save your city, the scene and hip-hop as we know it.
