Samm Henshaw | Electric Brixton

Samm Henshaw returns with Church featuring EarthGang. Tipped as One To Watch in 2019 by YouTube, The Independent, Metro and Blues & Soul amongst others, fast-rising talent Samm Henshaw now delivers the official lyric video for his new single, Church. The track features EarthGang, the Atlanta-based duo signed to J. Coles Dreamville imprint.

Church proves to be as hypnotic as it is heavenly, as Samms robust delivery glides over a stomping groove and bluesy beat before culminating on the commanding chant, Wake up and get yourself to church, yeah!

Church is a deeply personal song, performed with a knowing wink and a lot of love, about growing up in a household where Sundays were about being dragged out of bed to church by your mum. The songs written from the perspective of a younger, teenage Samm and addresses the idea of finding ones own identity within a religious household, but with a lot of fun and swagger and a if you know, you know relatability. Speaking to Vogue Samm describes this as: My fight with my parents was, Listen, if you really want me to be into this, and get it, let me do it for myself. But eventually in my own time, I found my way back. Now, I go pretty much every Sunday!

With Samm already amassing radio support from heavyweights such as BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra, Beats 1, and Capital Xtra, Church follows his sold-out headline show at Scala in October. UK rapper Wretch 32 made a guest appearance to perform with Samm for their collaborative single Doubt alongside Samm, with the track getting playlisted by 1Xtra at the end of 2018. 2018 saw Samm Henshaws highly anticipated return.

After touring with the Chance The Rapper and RagnBone Man, Samm spent the year on the road working on new material. Studio sessions with Pharrell Williams, Josh Grant and collaborating with visual creative Mason London, saw Samms music reach new highs. How Does It Feel?, Broke and Doubt feat. Wretch32 demonstrated Henshaw vocal depth and range. Breaking out with The Sound Experiment EP and its follow up The Sound Experiment 2, Samm gained praise and recognition from Annie Mac, Huw Stephens, Phil Taggart and Mistajam. Fans have also been wowed over the past year with Samms live performances including last years roof raising Great Escape performance and a sold out Scala show.
