Everybody loves dinosaurs. Well, most people do! Dinosaurs are more than just dusty old bones or super-stars of the big screen, but are for many people the first step into science. In this talk, young palaeontologist and adventurer, Dean Lomax will discuss the role of dinosaurs in science, from their naming and discovery right here in Britain (less than 200 years ago), to some of the latest cutting-edge research. He will focus on Britains role in the invention of dinosaurs (yup, dinosaurs are a British invention!) and discuss many of the incredible dinosaur species that have been found on our doorstep.

Dean Lomax is an internationally recognised multi-award-winning palaeontologist, science communicator and author. He has travelled the globe and worked on many fascinating projects from excavating dinosaurs in the American West, to describing new species of extinct marine reptiles, and winning a gold medal for excellence in science. Dean is passionate about communicating palaeontology with the public and regularly appears on television, including as series advisor and expert co-presenter for ITVs Dinosaur Britain. He has written two books, numerous scientific papers, and many popular articles. Dean is a Visiting Scientist at The University of Manchester and patron of the UK Association of Fossil Hunters (UKAFH).
