Jhann Jhannsson: Last And First Men
The London Symphony Orchestra perform Jhann Jhannssons breathtaking multimedia work; a requiem for the last of humankind.
Based on the cult Science Fiction novel by Olaf Stapledon, Last and First Men uses music, film and Tilda Swintons mournful narration to form a poetic meditation on memory and loss. It sits somewhere between fiction and documentary, placing images of a decaying futuristic landscape filmed in 16mm black and white in the former Yugoslav republics against Jhannssons haunting orchestral score.
The Oscar-nominated composer Jhann Jhannsson whose work has included Arrival, The Theory of Everything and Sicario spent seven years crafting the work before its premiere at last years Manchester International Festival. Tonight sees him joined by the LSO, conducted by the composer/conductor Danel Bjarnason
