Symphony No 7

Pre-concert talk
There will be a pre-concert talk at 6.15pm, free to ticket-holders

Birds sing, horns call and streams flow: theres no experience more refreshing than Beethovens lovely Pastoral symphony. And theres none more exuberantly physical than his unstoppable Seventh.

Its a dream programme for such masters of orchestral colour as Gardiner and the Orchestre Rvolutionnaire et Romantique, whose vivid, earth-tones of period brass and woodwind instruments will bring Beethovens pastoral landscape to life.

And in the swashbuckling Seventh the piece that made even Wagner jump up and dance its all about the sheer thrill of playing and living on the edge. Beethoven said that he wanted to intoxicate his listeners: this should put you well over the limit.
