Brecon Jazz Festival Day 2

2014 marks the 30th Anniversary of Brecon Jazz, with the resurgent festival once more taking over various venues in Brecon town centre this August. The breath-taking Brecon Cathedral will host the Chapter Stage for the second year running.

Chapter’s partnership with the festival continues to blossom and this year we welcome the Michael Wollny Trio, rising Brit star Zara McFarlane and Don Weller & David Newton to our stage. We’ll also be hosting the premiere of Huw Warren’s Dylan Thomas Centenary commission ‘Do Not Go Gentle’, along with the following artists; the Marius Neset Quartet, the Trish Clowes Quintet featuring Gwilym Simcock, a rare performance from the John Taylor Trio and Christine Tobin’s tribute to Leonard Cohen ‘A Thousand Kisses Deep’, which won the Herald Angel Award at the Edinburgh Festival in 2013.

Elsewhere in the programme things are just as diverse, with the legendary Burt Bacharach (Thu 7 Aug, Market Hall), Laura Mvula (Sat 9 Aug, Market Hall), the reformed Loose Tubes (Fri 8 Aug, Market Hall) and the Grammy-winning new voice of Jazz Gregory Porter (Sun 10 Aug, Market Hall). Breaking it down, Brecon Jazz will host 39 concerts across 6 venues over 4 days.

This year also marks the return of the much loved The Captain’s Walk outdoor arena in Brecon town centre (Sat 9 and Sun 10 Aug). Masterclasses, The Brecon Jazz Street Market, Western Power Kids Zone and free street entertainment combine to make Brecon Jazz 2014 one of the biggest yet. Here’s to the next 30 years!
