The Stray Birds + Support

Songwriting Magazine writes that The Stray Birds are "...flying high... with successful tours of the UK and Europe including appearances at the Cambridge Folk Festival and the Tonder Festival in Denmark... instrumental virtuosity and bluegrass-inspired three-part harmony... their new album \'Best Medicine\' has proved a surprise hit". That surprise hit was named International Folk Music Award\'s "Song of the Year"! So we are pleased to annouce that the only Stray Birds gig in Wales in 2017 is to be held at St Donat\'s Arts Centre. All originally from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, The Stray Birds started as a duo of acoustic buskers in early 2010 when Maya de Vitry and Oliver Craven met with their instruments, their voices, and their songs. It didn\'t take much convincing to get bassist Charlie Muench on board, and with the addition of a third unique and powerful voice, the group began to define its captivating sound. Seven years, three original records, and some six hundred performances later, the band is best known today for its song-writing, its tight and forthcoming vocal harmony blend and its commitment to an impassioned delivery of original material, both on stage and in the studio. They\'ve been seen from LA to London, sung songs from Dallas to Denmark, and played tunes from New York to New Orleans. In 2015, they emerged triumphant from Cambridge Folk Festival with footage included in the TV Highlights coverage of the event. Their 2016 Yep Roc Records release Magic Fire was produced by Grammy-winner Larry Campbell and earned much praise, including being voted as AmericanaUK\'s Best Album of 2016. They also carried off the Band of The Year title in the same Readers Poll. With time, their sound has evolved to a palate broader than what it first was on the street corners and in the markets, but this much remains true: The Stray Birds is a band of musicians as subtle and nuanced as they are energetic, a band of writers as blatant and bold as they are coy, and perhaps most importantly, a band of people as friendly and compassionate as they are talented. It\'s safe to imagine that most who hear their music come back for another listen, time and again.

Whole Lotta Led

DOORS 7.30PM 14+ On Sale Thurs 8th Dec 9am Whole Lotta Led are the longest running, full-time professional tribute to Led Zeppelin. During 2012 Whole Lotta Led made significant changes to their line up and 2013 has seen them go from strength to strength with the band’s customary two and half hour shows receiving universal acclaim from Zeppelin fans the length and breadth of the UK. Whole Lotta Led have always avoided using wigs and costumes, instead they focus on the music and the new five-piece line-up recreates the sounds of Led Zeppelin’s original studio albums to an astonishing level of accuracy. For Whole Lotta Led it as all about celebrating the incredible music which Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and John Bonham created during their illustrious career. All five members of Whole Lotta Led lived through the euphoric times of Led Zeppelin’s 1970’s heyday and all witnessed Led Zeppelin live, except for Martin who despite obtaining tickets to see them at Earl’s Court in 1975 couldn’t go as his mother wouldn’t let him – well he was only thirteen at the time!. Since their formation in 1996 the band have continually led the field of Zep tributes and with over 1,300 shows to their name they have performed ‘Stairway To Heaven’ more than any other band in the world – INCLUDING Led Zeppelin. Whole Lotta Led pioneered the concept of performing a complete album live when in 2001 they toured the UK celebrating the 30th anniversary of the release of Led Zeppelin’s classic fourth album. During their eighteen year career Whole Lotta Led have also performed Led Zeppelin I, Led Zeppelin II and Houses Of The Holy in their entirety. Since then numerous bands have followed this format. Whole Lotta Led were also the first tribute act to recreate some of Led Zeppelin’s legendary live shows when in 2001 they performed the ‘Bath Festival’ set, in 2003 they staged the ‘Earl’s Court’ tour, in 2005 they recreated Zep’s last shows in England with the ‘Knebworth’ set, performed the live CD ‘How The West Was Won’ in 2006 and finally in 2008 they completed the ‘2007 O2 Reunion Show’ tour. Each member has ‘paid their dues’ in numerous bands of many different styles throughout the years and have played and recorded with many well known names in the music business but now they have joined together to perform some of the greatest music ever written with a passion and enthusiasm that is second to none. The band have also been active in raising funds for The ABC Trust, a charity founded by Jimmy Page’s wife to help under privileged children in Brazil, the involvement with the charity eventually led to a meeting with Led Zeppelin’s legendary guitarist Jimmy Page who has given the band his blessing and wished them all the best.

Sounds Of Simon

As seen on BBC The One Show! The Sounds of Simon is a tribute to the wonderful music of Simon and Garfunkel. All The Hits 1957-1987 is the brand new show that does exactly was it says on the tin. From Hey Schoolgirl, released in 1957 when they were known as Tom & Jerry, all the way through to the hits from the Gracelands album, they are all here: The Sounds of Silence, Homeward Bound, Scarborough Fair and into Paul Simons amazing solo career with songs like Late in the Evening, Fifty Ways to Leave your Lover. Lose yourself to nostalgia as the full band play all the hits that have established Paul Simon as one of the most successful songwriters of all time. Paul and Art are played to perfection, bringing in elements of their famously fractious relationship, as well as replicating the beautiful harmonies flawlessly. With video clips, stories, and memories from the last 50+ years, this is a wonderful show filled with excellent music, nostalgia, and a genuine love for some great musicians. Ben is something of an expert on Paul Simon. BBC The One Show A world class act. The Times

Billy Bragg - 'Bridges Not Walls'

Fresh from touring the world with Joe Henry and galvanised by events, not least the worrying rise of popularism, Billy Bragg is dealing with it in the best way he knows how, by strapping on his electric guitar and heading out on tour across the UK and Europe in November, under the title Bridges Not Walls. Billy, in one-man Clash mode, will perform songs from his 30+ year career, some pertinent covers by his heroes and mentors and some freshly minted songs about the state of the world. Says Billy: "Music can\'t change the world, but it does have the power to bring people together. In such divisive times, it seems a good place to start." Doors: 7.30pm 14+ (Accompanied by an adult)
