SUMAC Plus Baptists And Endon At Exchange, Bristol

We are beyond stoked to announce the return of SUMAC (USA). They will be joined by BAPTISTS (Canada) and ENDON (Japan) for what is likely to be the heaviest show to grace Bristol in 2019. SUMAC played their debut UK show in Bristol in July 2016, swiftly taking the crown as the heaviest band we've ever seen, further reaffirming this when we caught up with them at Roadburn 2017 and Primavera Sound 2018.

SUMAC was formed by Aaron Turner (ISIS / Old Man Gloom) with the intention of writing some of the heaviest music he'd ever created, and is completed by members Nick Yacyshyn (Baptists) and Brian Cook (Russian Circles / Botch / These Arms Are Snakes). They have maintained a steady output of material over their 5 years including three studios albums; 'The Deal' (2014) followed by 'What One Becomes' (2016) and 'Love In Shadow' (2018), both on Thrill Jockey Records; a live record, an EP and their collaboration with Japans fearless multi-instrumentalist and cultural provocateur Keiji Haino on 'American Dollar Bill - Keep Facing Sideways, You're Too Hideous To Look At Face On', also released on Thrill Jockey in 2018.

Their output is a colossal sonic melting pot, possibly best described by AllMusic as 'fractured, battering rhythms, sludge riffage, near-silent breakdowns, and chaotic improvisation, all maintaining a balance of measured, studied aggression and inspired mayhem'.

With critical acclaim from just about everyone including Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Metal Sucks, Decibel Magazine, CVLT Nation, Echoes and Dust, Pop Matters, Svbterranean, Metal Injection, Stereogum and more, SUMAC are a band not to be missed.

In support are Nick Yacyshyn's hardcore / crust-punk quartet Baptists, whose 2018 released 'Beacon of Faith' is already one of our albums of the year at Effigy HQ. We can't wait to experience them live along with Japan's experimental noise punk openers Endon. Plus tunes til late from Effigy. Tickets on-sale now.
