Slag Mag Issue 2 Launch Party W Ruth Kokumo & Bryony Williams
SLAG (Serious Ladies of Art & Gigs) MAG is back!
We finally return with issue number 2 with a party at the Hare to celebrate!
Thursday 29th August
Ruth Kokumo (full band)
Armed with her band Ruth Kokumo brings an energy to the stage that cant be matched. She captures attention with her raw vocals and rhythmic blues, similar to the likes of Nina Simone. You can catch her most weekends performing around Birmingham with her band The Ark and on her socials @ruthkokumo
Bryony Williams (solo)
"Like Anna Fox Rochinski, Kim Gordon or even Girlpool, Williams can display fragility, anger and sadness all within one song."
- BrumNotes Magazine.
Hayley Frances is a performance poet once shortlisted for Birmingham Poet Laureate two years running. She has performed at festivals all over the country including Glastonbury and Bestival and has recently had her pamphlet accepted at the National Poetry Library. Her poems explore what it means to be a womb-man while analysing the existence of feeling.
Scarlett Ward is a young West Midlands poet as comfortable on the page as in performance, with a real ear for language and an imagination to match. She was nominated Best Spoken Word Poet 2019 by Saboteur Awards, and came runner up in the WoLf Lit prize, Mother's milk prize & Verve Poetry prize.
