Young Company Show

Wanting to be someone else is a waste of the person you are. I\'d rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not. The duty of youth is to challenge corruption. - Kurt Cobain These young people are the generation of Kim and Kanye, a reality television President, the thigh gap, the dangers of the internet, women\'s marches and trolling. The generation that will inherit a Britain separated from Europe. Some are happy with the result. Some feel that their voice was not listened to. Do they protest, campaign or accept it as the way it always will be? We are excited to announce Bristol Old Vic Young Company\'s Summer Show 2017, which will be a collaboration with St Brendan\'s Sixth Form College Performing Arts Academy and feature young people from both organisations, inspired by their own personal stories, exploring the relationship between youth and power; What it is to have it, what happens when they don\'t have it and what can they do when the majority might not hear what they\'re saying? Ubu Roi

Join us on the absurdly violent/sexual journey of one man...a man who promises to make Poland great again! In December 1896, Alfred Jarry\'s new play, \'Ubu Roi\', induced a riot in the Paris theatre where it debuted. 120 years later, Squall + Frenzy present a daring new adaptation of this symbolist masterpiece. The grandstanding villainy of Pere Ubu is more relevant than ever in an age of Trump, where reality TV stars who boast of their disdain towards normal people take power: "Good and evil, right and wrong, up and down, into the pit!" With influences from English pantomime, commedia dell\'arte, Brecht and Shakespeare, this surreal critique of current politics turns the audience into participants, while \'King Shit\' rants and raves onstage, obliterating opponents and supporters alike, raising laughter and, at times, fear. 8/7 Concessions Doors 7.15pm to start 7.30pm

The Flying Lovers Of Vitebsk

Perhaps you\'ve seen them floating over a Russian village? Or perhaps you\'ve seen her toppling forward, arms full of wild flowers, as he arches above her head and steals a kiss. Meet Marc and Bella Chagall! The flying lovers of Vitebsk! Partners in life and on canvas, Marc and Bella are immortalised as the picture of romance. But whilst on canvas they flew, in life they walked through some of the most devastating times in history. Returning to Bristol Old Vic following its critically acclaimed world premiere as part of our 250th birthday celebrations, Daniel Jamieson\'s The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk traces this young couple as they navigate the Pogroms, the Russian Revolution, and each other. Flying onto our stage before an international showcase at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Emma Rice\'s vivid production is told with a theatrical language as fluid as Chagall\'s paintings, and woven throughout with music and dance inspired by Russian Jewish tradition. 9-12 Aug Theatre 7.30pm, 2.30pm (Sat mats) 31.50-11.50
