The Toasters Plus Special Guests At The Fleece, Bristol

Tue 4th Apr | 7.30pm | 10adv | All Ages* The Toasters thetoasters.band The Toasters are one of the original American third-wave ska bands. Founded in New York way back in 1981 by Buck. Weve released 9 studio albums, with labels such as Moon Ska Records, Megalith Records, Celluloid, Stomp Records, Caroline Distribution & Skaloid. Buck is the only constant member in the band. He moved over to the US to manage the Forbidden Planet comic book store, one year later he formed The Toasters. Our first show was opening for Bad Brains that same year, and later along in 83 we released our first single Beat Up. Two more years along and we reach Recriminations, our debut EP, produced by Joe Jackson. This was the point Buck decided to create Moon Ska Records, this would be the label for Recriminations. Over the following years we expanded with the addition of a brass section, releasing Skaboom! in 1987. Since then, the lineup has seen many new faces (regular contributors included Coolie Ranx, Matt Malles, Brian Sledge, Lester Sterling followed by a huge etc.), we released a bunch more albums, singles, EPs & compilations all available in our toastography. Our latest releases being One More Bullet (LP), in 2007 for our 25th anniversary & House of Soul (7) in 2013. Up to today were still touring around the world, filling the dance-floors with ska. While were at it weve also brought out a couple of hot-sauces & brews. So come down to a show checkout the supporting act(s), skank to our tunes, and you might even have some beer-money left over for merch! The 2-Tone Tribute Tour - Y Plas, Cardiff

2-Tone took the British music charts by storm in 1979, and for a short, but incredibly exciting period, turned the country into a sea of black and white check. The seven young men at the heart of this musical revolution were the Specials, a band which created a blend of musical genres, mixing punk and Jamaican ska, producing an energy not seen on stage before. The Specials led the way for other bands that joined the 2-Tone movement such as The Selecter, Madness, the Beat, and the Bodysnatchers. Bad Manners were not so much about politics, but all about dance! Whilst not part of the 2-Tone label, their infectious ska tunes were perfect for the music of the time. They were led by their iconic lead singer, Buster Bloodvessel. Hot and sweaty in his oversized jump suit and his huge tongue seemingly permanently out, Bad Manners soon built up a massive following. Madness have been a favourite band of the British public ever since their early days as part of the 2-Tone movement. Although they moved away from 2-Tone for their 2nd album, they are still loved by rude boys and rude girls across the UK. Their ‘nutty’ sense of humour and their longevity as a band has won them a place in the hearts of many. Oh, and their incredible knack of producing memorable songs time after time. The 2-Tone Tribute Tour was formed to bring back that fantastic moment in time for a generation who lived through it. It’s all about the look, the attitude and, of course, the dancing! These iconic bands will be represented by London-based Special Kinda Madness, who play as The Specials and Madness, and The Special Brew from Cardiff who perform as Bad Manners. Two top tribute bands who tour nationally. So dust down your pork pie hats, and put on your Fred Perry, your Harrington, your DMs or your loafers. Because you’re on for a BIG night out. Three and a half hours of live 2-Tone and ska music from your favourite bands. Let’s relive 1979 all over again! Tributes to the Specials, Bad Manners/The Beat and Madness, all on one stage.* 3 Bands … 2-Tone … 1 Fantastic Night!

Polite Riot & BeSharp Present: The Toasters

The Toasters are "Ska Pioneers" (Billboard magazine) and boldly go where no ska band has gone before. Having been compared to the Ramones, due to their longevity and adherence to core principles, the Toasters are held to be one of most influential ska bands out there. Their lean, mean ska machine has galvanized audiences and musicians alike with their embrace of the Jamaica-born pop music style that overwhelmed England in the 1960\'s, migrated to America in the early 1980s, and went global in the 1990s. The hallmark Toasters sound sits at the nexus of Reggae, Jazz, Punk and Soul and is the musical equivalent of a brass knuckle-duster. http://www.thetoasters.band/ Early Birds 6 (Get them quick - very limited) Advance 8 On the door 10 A bunch of support TBC Send your info to Paul@newcrossinn.com if you want to play

The London Intl Ska Festival - day 1 Thursday 13th April 2017 THE DEAD 60S +Pama International +more tba Tickets 25adv https://electricballroom.ticketabc.com/events/dead-60s/ (free to LISF2017 wristband holders) www.buytickets.at/hotshotscorcher The Dead 60s have announced they will be reforming for a set of six UK shows in April 2017. The band, featuring Matt McManamon, Ben Gordon, Charlie Turner and Bryan Johnson, burst onto the scene in 2005 with their Central Nervous System produced eponymous debut album & limited edition Space Invader dub album released through Liverpool label, Deltasonic Records. A string of singles accompanied the release including breakthrough hit Riot Radio, which found itself on heavy rotation on US Alternative Radio that year. Inspired by Gang of Four, Jackie Mittoo, King Tubby and The Clash, the band\'s energised live performances and potent mix of punk, dub & horrorcore ska ignited audiences globally, winning over fans & critics alike and landing them key festival appearances at Lollapalooza, Glastonbury and Rock En Seine, as well as opening slots on tour with Morrissey, Kasabian and with label mates The Coral. 2007 found The Dead 60s embarking on a number of collaborations including their own signature jacket with Fred Perry and a compilation for legendary reggae label Trojan Records, Riot Radio Broadcast. The band decamped to Avatar Studios in New York to begin work on their follow up album Time To Take Sides with producer David Kahne. Despite having the finished album recorded & ready to go, the band issued a statement in Feb 2008 announcing their split. Members have since pursued other musical careers, the most recent being Matt McManamon guesting as The Specials lead guitarist. 2017 sees The Dead 60s return to the stage for a limited run of shows, including headlining day 1 of The London Intl Ska Festival. Bombskare/Johnny Cage & The Voodoogroove/Dana Immanuel & The Sto

A year on from the BBC TV Programme 'UK's Best Part Time Bands' making it's Nationwide splash, firmly planting the Edinburgh Ska explosion that is Bombskare, and Cardiff's own Rock & Roll riot that is Johnny Cage & the Voodoogroove, deep into the hearts of households, we are proud to announce a pounding live show in the heart of Cardiff at Clwb Ifor Bach on Womanby Street!  It will be a hearty reunion of the two bands, who's natural affinity was awash with lashings of Celtic lunacy, culminating in neither band sleeping prior to competing on stage in front of the cameras, desperately hungover & still rocking like champions. In much the same way did we meet Dana Immanuel & the Stolen Band, who's Banjos had been gargling whisky & who's rhythms had been dunked in beer & put through the barn dance face first. The first band we met at Red Rooster festival some years ago. They took the stage right after us & we didn't need to look further for music or fun all weekend! It promises to be one of the best nights out in Cardiff & will undoubtedly keep you bouncing for weeks after.
