Miles Davis' Kind Of Blue

It difficult to express the importance of Miles Davis\' influence to the world of jazz, with a career spanning over five decades over which time he introduced many major stylistic developments to the art form. In 1959, he recorded what is widely regarded as his most triumphant album Kind of Blue with his then working sextet. The album has gone to become the highest selling jazz album of all time, going quadruple platinum. It was further honoured by the house of representatives in December 2009 when they voted 409 0 in favour of naming the album as a national treasure. Line up: Will Cleasby- Drums Joe Downard- Bass Ashley Henry- Piano Mark Kavuma- Trumpet Tom Barford - Sax

Rhythm Section Presents: Alfa Mist, Children Of Zeus,Allysha Joy

We return to the Jazz Cafe to continue our much-lauded residency, having seen the likes of Harvey Sutherland, Nerija, Super Best Friends Club, and Emma-Jean Thackray perform we continue to support the upcoming and acclaimed live acts we love. Alfa Mist Regular Jordan Rakei and Tom Misch collaborator is one of London\'s finest talents to emerge within the jazz inspired hip-hop or hip-hop inspired jazz spectrum of recent years, with enourmous testament given to his amazing album Antiphon, which has clocked well over a million listens on YouTube since it came out in March. If you haven\'t heard it, its something of a modern masterpiece, combining influences from the likes of Miles Davis, The Roots and of course modern hop-hop godfather J Dilla. and we cannot wait to hear what he and his band deliver to the Jazz Cafe! Children of Zeus Children of Zeus is the combined force of Konny Kon & Tyler Daley; Manchester\'s finest soulful hip-hop talent. They have broken waves courtesy of two absolutely stunning seven inches courtesy of the mighty First Word Records. \'Still Standing\' & \'I Can\'t Wait\' have become Rhythm Section classics since they have come out, being a cornerstone of both the warm-up and closing parts of our dances. This will go off. Allysha Joy So you may not have heard of Allysha Joy or her amazing band 30/70 but Rhythm Section Radio regulars certainly would have heard her stunning voice eminate over vibes a plenty. She has performed alongside acts such as Sampa the Great, Man Made Mountain, MKO and Simon Mavin, of Hiatus Kaiyote. Allysha is simply one of the most talented singers and songwriters to emerge out of Melbourne in recent years and is coming over to perform her soulful songs with simply a Fender Rhodes and a singing talent that will draw a tear from the dryest eye. With a beautiful seven single \'FNFL\' (Northside Records) which has been critically acclaimed, this is an essential act who will only blossom in the years to come. RS founder, Bradley Zero will be on the wheels of steel and our host for the night. Music starts at 7PM - don\'t be late!

KOOP Oscar Orchestra / 30.9 / London

Oscar Simonsson makes a triumphant return to the Jazz Cafe following the sell out comeback show in January, bringing back his new band the seven-piece Koop Oscar Orchestra as they perform iconic Koop songs as well as new unreleased material. After the second release Waltz for Koop, Swedish duo Koop quickly achieved cult underground status, with iconic tracks like \'Koop Island Blues\', \'Come To Me\' and \'Summer Sun\' establishing a new sound for jazz. Consisting of Oscar Simonsson and Magnus Zingmark, the pair created innovative music rooted largely in jazz but also elements of hip-hop and dance. The Orchestra play the music of Koop, originally written by Simonsson, reinterpreting iconic material from duo alongside new unreleased tracks. On stage the group reimagine Koops beautiful electronic landscapes - created through piecing together samples from thousands of records - through live instrumentation and hypnotic performance. Simonsson places huge importance on the togetherness of the music, and with such a highly anticipated live show, the Koop Oscar Orchestra are bound to unite fans new and old.

Peanut Butter Funk W/ Werkha DJ Set (Tru Thoughts)

After 3 amazing parties the first half of the year and a break over summer, Peanut Butter Funk is back this September! For part 4, were bringing along one of our favorite DJs / producers of the moment, in the form of Werkha! First adopting the alias in 2012, Werkha\'s last few years have seen him craft a singular sonic portfolio; exploring a vast array of live instrumentation, band arrangement, electronic production, DJ and remix work. Like his busy schedule, Werkhas productions demonstrate an infectious energy, curiosity, and enthusiasm for exploring the ways in which sound can traverse time and space, taking in transatlantic jazz and soul, diasporic West African percussion, trembling Chinese guzhengs, rolling Lancashire hillsides and vibrating urban tenements. We can\'t wait for him to raise the temperature on our basement dance floor this September as he\'s joined on the night by the PBF & Sounddhism DJs, plus Book Club resident Onyeara on warm up duties. As with all our events, we will be celebrating a mixture of global sounds present, past and future from the Caribbean, South America, and the African continent as well as delving through the outer peripheries of global disco, funk, soul, highlife, dub, hip-hop, broken beat and beyond. Music Policy: disco, funk, soul, highlife, afrobeat, dub, hip-hop, broken beat and beyond. Price: 4 ADV // MOTD
