Showcase Of Contemporary Sound Art

Cascabel presents : HLYSNAN SHOWCASE OF CONTEMPORARY SOUND ART Artists: Jordan Edge // Joseph Higgins // Joshua Legallienne // Charles Pender. + Cascabel Dj Set. A Thing Heard: Four Ways of Listening is a collaborative tour showcasing the work of four contemporary British artists working in the field of sound art. The artists have curated a collection of sculptural artworks that use sound as the primary medium, exploring the inherent materiality and physicality of sound through a range of media, working methods, and outcomes. The works utilise both conventional and unconventional methods of sound production; combining high-tech electronics (loudspeakers, computers, sensors, surface transducers) and customised sculptural elements (wood, rope, sheet metal, bioplastics, carbonated liquids, pyrotechnics) to demonstrate four distinct ways of working with sound in an artistic discipline. Jordan Edges Acclimate is a temperature-reactive sound installation that uses industrial fans and loudspeakers to explore the physical and psychological effects of noise on the human body. Joseph Higgins Many Gods, Many Voices is an electro-acoustic composition and sound installation, using a bespoke sonic table to embody the otherness of the human voice. Joshua Legalliennes Action Without Action is a series of kinetic sculptures that produce acoustic sound without the use of loudspeakers, electronics, or conventional sources of energy. Charles Penders Maelstrom is an immersive multi-channel installation using surface transducers to propagate sound into suspended sheets of metal. The artists will install, present, and de-install the works in each venue within the timeframe of a single evening. Originally developed as long-form installations, the works have been adapted for the concert format specifically for this tour. By showcasing the work in this context, the artists hope the tour will bring sonic arts to a wider, more inclusive, audience. All four artists currently live and work in Brighton, UK.

Spending much of 2017 in the studio refining new material, Mugun is now ready to drop a set of singles, which will make up a full EP in late spring/early summer. @MugunCov FRED FREDAS Fred Fredas is a 22 year old Artist/Songwriter/Musician coming out of South London with his proclivity for soulful instrumentals mixed with gritty, hard hitting vocals; it is not hard to detect both American and British influence in the music of Fred Fredas. An astute and observant storyteller, he harnesses the immediacy of grime with the undeniable sheen of modern hip-hop. The likes of Stevie Wonder, Prince, Michael Jackson, Andre 3000, The Roots and many more were Freds influences as he was growing up and now all those sounds have been manifested in his music. @FredFredas JOEL BAKER Joel Baker, 22 year old from Nottingham, blazed his way onto the London circuit with his hip hop covers of Kendrick Lamar & Kanye West. Three support tours, including Saint Raymond & Ella Eyre, and 5+ million Spotify streams later, Joel is back in his own lane. Working in Brooklyn, with hit producer Ido, Joel has created a new world of storytelling and vulnerability. Speaking on the unique sound Joel said "it lets me poke fun at myself, tell stories, and ultimately push music somewhere new. As always, I just want to write songs people relate to". @JoelBakerMusic BLAISE PASCAL London based future-soul artist Blaise Pascal unveiled his debut self-titled EP in February. Lead track I Can\'t Wait (premiered on Clash on 31st Jan 17) samples the melodic hook from Billy Cobham\'s \'Heather\', famously used in hip-hop classic 93 \'til Infinity\' by Souls of Mischief. A talented musician and authentic storyteller, Blaise\'s EP tracks range from exploring the complexities of relationships to addressing serious issues. He regularly takes inspiration from social, political and conscious commentary, such as on the track \'Dead Man\'s Shoes\' (premiered on Complex UK on 14th Feb 17). Heralded as a one to watch by ILUVLIVE, Blaise appears on the ILUVLIVE Hot List for 2017. @OfficialBlaisePascal ZION If there were a secret lab that created R&B stars, their 2017 model would probably sound something like Zion aka ZF. South Londons own Zion writes sexy songs that celebrate women and never objectify, showcased best on standout single "Wavey". His 2016 release "Lets Go" features a confident voice and mature sound, with eclectic production that keeps his UK Urban sound fresh. @justzf

Boys Noize B2b Erol Alkan + Tin Man (Live)

At Bugged Out, we\'ve been lucky enough to have the pleasure of Erol Alkan DJ\'ing for us over 100 times, and we\'re an office of happy Buggers to have been invited down to host a night at his XOYO residency, To The Rhythm. We take great pleasure in welcoming long time friend, a regular from our time at The End, compiler of one of our Suck My Deck mix CDs and all round good egg Boys Noize to play a vinyl only, back to back DJ set in the XOYO basement with Erol. The pair have collaborated many times before, having both released music on each others record labels, and pushing forward with exciting and new music across the spectrum. Expect to hear twisted acid, thumping techno, wide ranging oddities and more. From one ex Bugged Out resident to the current holder of the chalice, Lemmy Ashton will be returning to Room 2 at XOYO and delivering a Bugged Out classics set. Secretsundaze Day & Night Birthday Party

On Saturday 26th August we limber up for another celebration of music and life with an 18-hour day into night special at Oval Space. Our beloved party which is one of the longest running in the capital and surely in the country shows no signs of letting up, 2017 has already been a strong year with all parties so far absolutely firing! Residents DJs Secretsundaze have had a busy year with the label championing releases from Fred P, Solune and DJ Slyngshot to name a few. Their monthly NTS show is gaining some great momentum and they have still managed to fit in high profile gigs at Panorama Bar, Gottwood festival and of course their recent huge off Sonar parties in Barcelona. All the way from the D we have none other than Marcellus Pittman. A regular guest at the party for many years Marcellus always comes correct with his unique twisted, funked-up brand of boogie, disco, house and techno played with his usual swagger. His releases are few and far between, but always anticipated and always stand out. Making his Secretsundaze debut we are stoked to have Sadar Bahar play. Born and raised in Chicago, Sadar is a larger than life figure that has grown in popularity of late, shooting up the ranks to become an essential in many of Europe\'s more musically minded festivals and clubs. He is a true digger unearthing many hidden gems for his sets and we are looking forward to welcome him. Fast rising London based, Leeds born Bradley Zero makes a return visit to Secretsundaze. Getting his face known to many via hosting Boiler Room it\'s his work on his Rhythm Section imprint and his radio show of the same name on NTS that has marked him out as a tastemaker for his generation. The label has of course released the likes of Henry Wu, Al Dobson Jr and Chaos in the CBD. Early arrival for the daytime session on the terrace is essential as we have picked two fine DJs that are suitably experienced to soundtrack the afternoon. Nick The Record has quietly been doing his thing for many years. In the UK he is perhaps best known as a go to record dealer based in Brighton but he is a deadly DJ that is perhaps most highly regarded in Japan where he has legendary status after playing for many, many years particularly at the Life Force parties. Joining Nick will be Donna Leake from Brilliant Corners. Donna has exemplary taste in music across the board and her Boiler Room set and covering for Floating Points\' NTS show alongside her sometime DJ partner Mafalda has demonstrated. All artists will play extended sets to maximise the party pressure! We have also decide to throw our birthday on the Saturday this year so make a note in your diaries (it of course gives you an extra day to recover!). The scene is set for another fantastic birthday party on this bank holiday weekend. You know what to do!
