Rebecca Pronsky (USA) W/ Rich Bennett

Rebecca Pronsky is a born and raised Brooklynite whose music confidently straddles the boundaries of country roots, jazz, rockabilly, and folk. She creates a distinctive sound, which at times feels like The Smiths relocated to Nashville or Stevie Nicks singing with Ennio Morricone.   Rebecca is a triple threat. She’s got a “voice to die for” (Maverick), song-writing talent that showcases “brutal, cutting lyricism” (Ithaca Times), and a masterful collaborator: guitarist and producer Rich Bennett, who “puts the trimmings on the music with a battery of echo drenched, twangy leads” (Blurt).   A singer since elementary school, Rebecca added song-writing to her repertoire around age 16 when she picked up the guitar for the first time. She went on to study Ethnomusicology and jazz at Brown University and came home to Brooklyn with a diploma and a demo CD. She soon met musical compatriot Rich Bennett and the two hit the road together.   In over a decade of touring, Rebecca and Rich have criss-crossed the US and Europe sharing stages with Shawn Colvin, Loudon Wainwright III, Madeleine Peyroux, Peter Case, Josh Ritter, Freedy Johnston, Amy Rigby & Wreckless Eric, Patty Larkin, and Steve Forbert   “This Brooklyn native should be a household name as far as we’re concerned… on track to become one of America’s foremost modern folk songstresses.” BBC 6 Music   In 2015, Rebecca and Rich launched Acme Hall Studios, a recording studio and music education space in Park Slope, Brooklyn, where they teach, record, and inspire musicians of all levels.   Rebecca’s music has been featured on NPR Song of the Day, WFUV Sunday Breakfast, BBC Scotland, and BBC 6. She has twice been a regional finalist in the Mountain Stage NewSong competition and her songs have appeared on television shows such as Breaking Amish, Usta Usta, and 90210. She recently appeared singing on an episode of NPR’s “This American Life.”   In 2013, Rebecca was honoured to have her album Only Daughter named a “Top 10 Country Album of the Year” by the UK’s The Telegraph, alongside Patty Griffin, Emmylou Harris and Steve Earle.   "Pronsky's voice conveys the wisdom of experience...over a wash of noir-ishly twangy guitars." – NPR https://www.rebeccapronsky.com/

Sound Of The Sirens | Bush Hall

Theres a certain transcendent magic that happens when two contrasting voices coalesce in perfect harmony. Imperceptibly, they can raise you from the temporal to the spiritual in the breath of a song, and set you floating among the firmament infused with a sense of wonder just like Sound of the Sirens. Exeter-based duo Abbe Martin and Hannah Wood dovetail beautifully on their debut album, For All Our Sins, a beguiling acoustic pop collection replete with lyrical sensibility on tracks like the first single, Smokescreen (Living beyond the darkness others create for us, and growing into something positive), The Circus (When everyone wants something from you, who can you trust?) and Mr Wilson (The chemistry of a new relationship, unsure of where it is going, but knowing that you want more from it). Already championed by Chris Evans who declared himself blown away when he heard Sound of the Sirens for the first time, and subsequently invited them to perform alongside U2 and Take That on TFI Friday last year theyre certain to broaden a burgeoning fan base on the back of For All Our Sins. Its a fan base built up not just over several sublime EP self-releases but also through their live shows, which combine a natural facility for connecting with their audiences and unforgettable performances predicated on energy, warmth, humour and, above all, real conviction. They are touring in May around the release of the album which comes out on 05 May on DMF Records and will be available on CD, Vinyl and Digital and will be playing at festivals over the Summer.

Ian Sherwood (Canada)

“Everywhere To Go” is Sherwood’s latest studio creation. The album is considered to be his best to date and is chock-full of instantly appealing hooks and singable choruses while sitting comfortably in Sherwood’s signature style of imaginative, narrative writing.   From Halifax, Nova Scotia, Sherwood is a musician, story teller and a constant creator. He has penned tunes for many other artists as well as for theatre, film and television. He was named Contemporary Singer of the Year by the 2013 Canadian Folk Music Awards, Best Male Artist of the Year by the 2012 International Acoustic Music Awards and was the 2008 and 2010 Music Nova Scotia; Musician Of The Year.   Bob Mersereau of CBC Radio, Fredericton described him as “… a natural performer who entertains as much with his wit and stories as with his songs.”   Starting his music career as an in-demand saxophone player in Toronto, Sherwood soon began looking for an outlet for his poetic side. His unique musicianship combined with his tales of heart-break, victory and adventure quickly gained recognition as a solid performer, lyricist and player. This led to a nomination for the 2011 ECMA award for Male Solo Artist Recording of the Year.   His highly anticipated new album “Everywhere To Go” was released in September, 2014. "....beautiful lyrics, and beautiful images in his songs" CBC’s Freestyle   His shows are infectious and he has a sound which covers Folk and Americana with a light popish feel through his songs; which when you hear them sounds like they should be smash hits for likes of a Robbie Williams or a Gary Barlow. However the songs and delivery is distinctly Ian’s own and his wonderful guitar playing combined with his sharp saxophone licks; plus the use of overlaying sounds to create his own backing band, makes for a great night of entertainment, check him out!   “….impressive guitar work amid catchy hook lines galore, surely the main thought in the room was, “Yep. It’s only a matter of time before he’s a household name.” -Todd MacLean, Charlottetown Guardian   http://iansherwood.com/

Simple Minds - Acoustic Live '17

Simple Minds Acoustic is the newest album, celebrating their career spanning collection of songs acoustically for the very first time. On this album, the band have found a way of doing the acoustic thing without losing their essence, and a dozen Simple Minds songs loved by millions now sound, more organic and even more likely to leave a lasting imprint. The synths are no more but the Celtic soul remains. As a group who formed in the punk era and found their mojo through a shared love of Bowie, Kraftwerk and electronic dance, Simple Minds are not natural acoustic adventurers, but they have done a remarkable job here, adding fresh nuance to brilliant songs without trampling on sacred memories. Simple Minds career has seen them be responsible for some of the most innovative and enduring anthems in rock music and are widely regarded as one of the best live bands in the world. On taking Simple Minds Acoustic on the road Jim Kerr says: The concert stage is where Simple Minds do their best work, it is where we forged our distinctive live reputation. For that reason we look forward immensely to taking Simple Minds Acoustic out on tour. Dont be fooled by the acoustic tag however! These shows will be as energetic and passionate as ever. On what the audience will expect, Jim continued: With a great live line up and a setlist full of iconic Minds songs, it is bound to be a unique and memorable experience for both band and fans.
