Leeds-based post-Brexitcore (topical I know) 5-piece Living Body are travelling the country at the end of July to showcase their debut single, 'Don't Give Up On Me', a song they describe as written for hope, optimism and the European Union. Living Body will be performing a FREE show at the Green Door Store in Brighton on Monday 25th July 2016. Support comes from Calico and Patchwork Natives. (See our event listing)
Unsurprisingly, a Google search of living body, and particularly an image search will not yield much in the way of the band - however there are some great videos including one by the National Geographic titled 'Inside The Living Body' which will keep you busy for hours.
The band is the project of Chicago-born Jeff T. Smith (formerly Juffage) working alongside longtime colaborators Katie Harkin and Tom Evans. Following the success of their 'Sonic Cauldron' show at Left Bank in Leeds in 2013, the band was joined by Alice Rowan and Sarah Statham to complete the ensemble for their live performances. Living body aims to bring joy to the lives of others and simply exist in a world of skin and information overload in 2016.
Living Body's debut single 'Don't Give Up On Me' was released last month (28th June) as a limited edition free download through their bandcamp page - DOWNLOAD Don't Give Up On Me - although the price is set to pay what you like, so if you really like it, why not pay something to support the band in their early stages.
The song starts with a false warmth of french horn before the dirgy vocals come in, underpinned by sparse guitar tremolos and a military snare drum beat. The track is quite short at just over 2 and a half minutes, as is anything but a sing-a-long, but it does give you a brief glimpse into the sonic world of Living Body, like a trailer enticing you to see the film. Listen to the track below and see what you think.
