KOJO X Paydro EP Launch at Off The Cuff (2nd August) Preview

Brand new environmentally focussed events company Kojo join forces with esoteric producer Paydro to celebrate the launch of the brand and his debut EP.

These are tumultuous times we are living through, not least because of the threat posed by climate breakdown, deforestation and a profound loss of natural life on Earth. Luckily attitudes are beginning to shift in relation to this vital problem, with icons such as Sir David Attenborough and Greta Thurnberg playing an instrumental part in raising awareness to many issues related to the environment and our destruction of it. The wheels of change are in motion, and sustainability, especially in the last couple of years, has become top of the agenda for many people across the world.

One of the industries that is currently doing the most to combat the problem is that of live entertainment, with countless festivals, promoters and performers making pledges to help the environment in any way they can. Glastonbury, for instance, took a huge step in banning all single-use plastics from their site in 2019, and the widely popular Boomtown Fair are taking similar steps to reduce their environmental impact this year too. When you think about the amount of energy and raw materials events like this use up it is only right anyway. It is also important not to forget quite how much energy clubs across the UK use up as well, and Kojo are one of the newest club promoters to have a refreshing focus on the environment, as well as throwing hugely exciting parties.

Through a focus on music, fashion and art the team behind the brand are hoping to spread awareness about the sad plight of our planet, whilst also aiming to go carbon natural and plastic free as quickly as possible. It is a truly inspirational goal, and one that is much needed in the cultural climate of today. Really, things like live music or club nights are in such an incredibly good position to convert people to the environmental cause, but why is it that so little of them actually take this seriously? We have already seen how profound the effects of the awareness generated at festivals such as Glastonbury can be; just imagine if this sentiment was replicated every weekend on a smaller scale. Kojo are working towards this, helping the desperately needed conversation about our natural world reach an exponentially increasing audience.

Friday the 2nd of August is the date of their debut soiree, held in South East London’s Off The Cuff venue. It also acts as the EP release show of one of Kojo’s integral members Paydro, with him running through the body of work, even inviting various collaborators to perform alongside the DJ. The EP features productions from the man himself, as well as a host of vocal features from the likes of Remz, Lola Snow and Jesse. Paydro has had a busy few years, with performances across Brighton, London and further afield contributing to his ever-rising profile. This will be the first time anyone is able to hear the full EP in public, so you can expect a very excitable atmosphere indeed.

Elsewhere on the line-up are a couple of hugely talented selectors in Izco and Teddy Nash. The latter especially has been a regular fixture on the Brighton and London circuit for some time now, also counting performances in faraway locations such as Budapest as achievements. He is comfortable spinning anything from Hip-Hop to high energy UK Funky and Dancehall sounds, so you really never know exactly what to expect from Teddy Nash – the way it should be. Rinse FM affiliate Izco is also a DJ that has been in hot demand across London and Manchester, playing an exhilarating blend of UK underground sounds that always get dance floors moving wherever he finds himself. These two are the perfect counterpart to Paydro, you can be sure of that.

Kojo are a perfect example of where so many aspects of modern society and culture must lead too. The conversation over the wellbeing of our planet and the organisms that live on it has never been so desperately needed, and brands like this that take it as their driving force should be laden with an infinite amount of respect. Get yourself down to Off The Cuff on the 2nd of August and witness the start of a shifting attitude when it comes to raving. First release tickets are only £4 currently, a bargain for an evening of sustainable fun.
