Jon And Roy Play At Brighton's Hope And Ruin

All the way from Canada, folk-rock and reggae trio are playing a small number of shows in the UK this month, including performances at Nell's Jazz and Blues in London (8th Aug), Bands in the Sands Perranporth Beach (9th Aug),Boardmasters Festival in Cornwall (10th Aug) and Brighton's Hope & Ruin (11th Aug). The band recently released their 7th studio album, The Road Ahead Is Golden, led by the release of their single 'Runner' (watch the video below). We take a look at Jon & Roy and find out a bit more about the chaps behind the music.

Introducing Jon & Roy

When singer-songwriter Jon Middleton and percussionist Roy Vizer met at the University of Victoria, British Columbia (Canada), they probably had no idea that nearly 15 years later the pair would still be making music together. It just goes to show that college/university really is the time where you make the friends that will last. After a year of making music together, they brought along their friend, multi-instrumentalist Dougal Bain Mclean and recorded their first album, Sittin' Back (2004). Following some time travelling together in Australia, a year's hiatus during which time Middleton released a solo record, and a relocation of Vizer and Mclean to Vancouver, the original duo of Jon and Roy released their second album Another Noon, the title track of which was used in an advertising campaign by Volkswagon for 9 months in the USA. The album also included the track 'Little Bit Of Love',  which became popular on YouTube because of its fun video, made by splicing together extracts from popular cartoons including The Simpsons, Family Guy and The Smurfs (watch the video below).

Fast forward 10 years and Jon and Roy are still going strong, now with Louis Sadava completing the trio - but Jon, Roy and Louis doesn't quite have the same ring to it does it? The last decade has seen them gain exposure and fans around the world with their laid-back folk sound drawing in their audiences and getting them another advertising deal, this time with Scotiabank, and a headline slot on Canada Day. The Road Ahead Is Golden was released on 9th June 2017 and is available to buy through their website and the usual online retailers.

Support for their Brighton show comes from Frankie Furlow and Adam Scott Glasspool.
