This week, UK singer-songwriter and YouTube favourite Gabrielle Aplin will be embarking on a short 3-date tour in the south of England. Unsurprisingly, the shows have all sold out, but we are using this as an opportunity to trace her history so far, to give you a brief history of Gabrielle Aplin, told in just 6 videos. Enjoy!
Gabrielle first came to the public's attention by releasing a series of YouTube cover tracks and EP's through Never Fade Records, a label which she still releases her music on. Following a signing to Parlophone, she was announced as the singer of the soundtrack to the 2012 John Lewis Christmas advert, with a cover of Frankie Goes To Hollywood's 'Power of Love'. With nearly 33 million YouTube plays, it's fair to say that the song was a bit of a classic.
To say that Gabrielle's first single release from her debut English Rain was a success would be to undersell the track. Had she just written this one song and nothing else, I think that she would still be remembered for years to come for the track. Fortunately, she didn't stop there though.
Just one month after 'Please Don't Say You Love Me', Gabrielle followed up with her now classic alt-love ballad with another tale of woe. 'Panic Cord' is a song about self-sabotage and the demise of a relationship told from an unusual perspective. It's catchy and thought-provoking, so that's two for two so far for the singles from the debut album!
The thrid single from English Rain, 'Home' didn't make a dent in the UK top 40 for some reason, but in spite of this it remains a firm favourite with fans and newcomers alike, and has been featured in a number of TV shows and trailers. The song was originally released on her third EP, Home EP, which was released just a month before signing to Parlophone.
Gabrielle visited Brighton to give a special Songwriting Masterclass for the songwriting class at BIMM Brighton. She talked about her career to date and how to keep a healthy voice. Catch part of her session below.
Finally, her latest release proves that her appeal is far from dwindling with already over 1 million Youtube plays on this song which is barely two months old. Enjoy!
