Yvonne McDonnell is an English folk singer based in London. She started out her music career on the folk circuits in Portsmouth before returning to her hometown in London where she was welcome with open arms. After dabbling with acoustic guitars, famed for their part to play in folk music, she branched out into electric where she found her distinct sound.
Heavily influenced by the music she was brought up on such as Johnny Cash, Nick Cave and Joy Division, as many great artists do Yvonne weaves these classic roots into her own music. There is a Celtic hint around the edges of her vocals which give them their haunting tones. Not dissimilar to female icons such as Joan Baez, Joan Armatrading and Joni Mitchell.
McDonnell has just finished recording her second EP Not Her Own which is to be released 17th June at Urban Bar London. Her debut EP Endless Soul received a high amount a praise from critics such as Gigslutz, She Makes Music and Pure M Magazine.
'There are many out there trying to communicate but few are able to do it with such ease and natural articulation. As a songwriter, Yvonne seems to have inherited something from a bygone era, when pop songs were works of art in themselves, more than just forms of wall-paper and entertainment.'
