The project of Bristol, England's Seb Gainsborough, Vesselexpands on his hometown's legacy of pioneering producers with ever-shifting elements of techno, house, garage, dubstep, ambient, and industrial music. A part of the Young Echo collective, which also includes El Kid and Kahn & Zhou,Vessel debuted officially in 2011 with the Nylon Sunsetsingle on Throwing Snow's esteemed Left_Blank label and a limited-edition cassette release on Rekordah's Astro-Dynamics. Gainsborough's eclectic yet distinctive sound earned the attention of Tri Angle Records, who signed Vesselin early 2012. As he worked on his first album, he also released the Standard EP via Left_Blank. Late that year, his debut full-length, Order of Noise, arrived, drawing praise for how deftly Gainsborough flaunted stylistic conventions. The following year, the Misery Is a Communicable Disease EP was issued by Mute's Liberation Technologies imprint. Vessel's second album, Punish, Honey, appeared in September 2014. Eschewing electronics for sheets of metal, handmade guitars, and other more organic-sounding instrumentation, the album delivered some of Gainsborough's most challenging music yet.
