Geraint Rhys & The Lost Generation is a young politicised and politically aware Welsh singer. His influences are the bands and artists who changed the face of popular music and the protest singers who came before them. Geraint’s song writing follows boldly in the bloodline of Bob Dylan, Joe Strummer, The Police, Morrissey, Frank Turner, Nicky Wire and Chuck D.
Hailing from Swansea his songwriting merges social commentary with his own personal experience of living in multicultural austerity Britain. His lyrics are poignant and powerful, challenging and forthright. A PhD student specialising in social welfare there is more than a hint of Dylan Thomas’ shrewd observational streak to Geraint’s own powerful couplets, his lyrics embracing subjects as diverse as small town politics, war, power, love, hate and greed, often all in the same song.
Reggae, folk, rock and pop influences stream through his music which combined with a soulful and powerful voice has produced a serious artist with a clear message of intent. With radio play on BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio 6, Nation and Amazing Radio, performances on Welsh Language Tv Channel S4C, the backing of the Music charity HelpMusicians UK (who named him as on of their Emerging Excellence artists for 2014/2015, and the release of his debut album in 2015, this year looks to be a promising year for him.
