Carlos Sanchez

Cárlos Sanchez’s music wouldn’t sound out of place on Ibiza, and indeed, his intricate tech-house constructions have caught attention of regular visitors to the White Isle, including Villalobos, Raresh, Steve Bug, Danny Tenaglia, Carl Cox, Laurent Garnier, Dan Ghenacia, Shonky, Dyed Soundorom, Franck Roger, Terence Terry, D’Julz and each of whom have alternately played and praised them at length.

However, Cárlos in fact hails from Gran Canaria, and it’s here that the Spaniard mastered his trade alongside his studio partner and frequent collaborator DJ Ray. Often utilising strains of samba, funk and jazz, Cárlos isn’t adverse to tinkering with slightly more obscure instrumentation, lending his productions a rare musicality without straying into self-indulgence. Which isn’t to say that he can’t move a crowd. Talking to Teshno earlier this year, Nick Curly singled out Cárlos’ relentless ‘Put Your Soul In Front’ as his go-to dancefloor-filler, and elected to include the track in his recent Defected compilation- a pretty serious endorsement from the Mannheim maestro.

This prowess has manifested in a prolific release schedule consisting of joint ventures with DJ Ray on Superfancy Recordings and Khazuma Future, and more recently, much-lauded solo output for Poker FlatRecordings, Inmotion, 8Bit Records, and Terrence:Terry:’s flagship La Vie En Rose. Currently Carlos is working in collaboration with Hollis P Monroe and his vocalist Overnite and has a release coming in February 2014 on Stranjjur (NYC ). As a DJ, he’s set his sights equally high, appearing at storied venues such as GOA Fabrik, Treibgut, Vinyl Club, Warehouse702, Clapper, Weekend, Sankeys and Studio 80 to entertain crowds with his deep, driving sets.

-With an arsenal of forthcoming releases lined up for the coming year (including a remix from Parisian star Jef K which we’re very much looking forward to), Cárlos Sanchez is one of the most exciting additions to the JMA roster in recent memory, and we’re intrigued to see what the rest of 2014 holds for this rising producer.
