A born and bred Bristolian, Billy Disney grew up in St. Paul’s at the epicentre of the city’s thriving sound system culture, surrounded by eye-watering, chest-rattling bass that sparked a sordid lifelong love affair with all things low-end.
Billy’s first DJing endeavours took place during the nineties, when drum ‘n’ bass and jungle reigned supreme, and he spent his adolescence witnessing the likes of of the Full Cycle crew blaze a trail through free parties and clubs around the country. Taking cues from Bryan Gee and Louie Vega, he honed his mixing to a tee, and his early appearances at the infamous Feeder Road parties provided a springboard for a prolific DJ career that has seen him delivering diverse sets at club nights and festivals ever since, with regular appearances at Secret Garden Party, Shambala, and of course Just Jack.
On the production side of things, Billy marked himself out with the dancefloor-crushing bounce of ‘Rum Punch’, which was promptly snapped up by Pets Recordings for inclusion on their ‘Friends Will Carry You Home Too’ compilation alongside Martin Dawson, Tom Demac, and Catz ‘n’ Dogz themselves. ‘Rum Punch’, and the similarly boozy follow-up ‘Brandy Butter’ are solid examples of his approach to production- jacking, bass-heavy house music primed for wreaking peak time havoc.
With tracks receiving support from Groove Armada, a steadily growing crop of quality productions propelling him into a hectic Summer of touring and a further release lined up on Pets, things are looking very promising indeed for Mr. Disney.
