As you enter The Angel you are welcomed by a warm and friendly atmosphere, complete with calming lighting, relaxing music and attentive staff. Behind the contemporary ambience is a traditional ethos focusing on fine, home-cooked fare, nurtured ales, an extensive choice of draft ciders and an impressive wine cellar.
The owner, Jo Dimond-Brown, has created a welcoming and affable environment for those wanting a relaxed drink after work, a lunchtime or evening meal, as well as those just seeking a great night out. The feel could be described as ‘modern romantic’ with quiet corners, leather sofas and open fireplaces, which are alight in the colder months – all this combines to create a calm and warming environment.
The Angel hosts a vibrant central bar area where an eclectic assortment of friendly locals mix with guests from further afield for a pint and a chat. Alternatively, there is an intimate restaurant area where diners can watch the chefs at work in the open-plan kitchen.
The venue’s growing reputation for fine dining will not leave you disappointed. The seasonally changing menu provides a varied range of dishes from the famous gourmet burgers (some say they are the best in Gloucestershire), to traditional pub fare.
A daily specials board provides an exciting choice of dishes that could range from regional favourites and local specialities, to truly international cuisine. On Sundays the regular menu is joined by a delicious roast; it is a family favourite, available all day and very reasonably priced.
The pub hosts a number of exciting events including a weekly quiz, a poker night, regular live music and an open mic night on Fridays, which is fast becoming one of the most popular nights out in Cheltenham. In addition to the main bar and restaurant, a discreet function room is available which is ideal for conferences, private dining, or for family celebrations of up to 50 people.

Fill your Friday nights with music at the Fiery Angel Open Mic Night. Run by local musicians (Colin, Steve and Toss) we are hoping this night will be a collaboration between participants. Come along, pick up an instrument and play.
Don’t want the haste of bringing your own guitar? Don’t worry as we have a acoustic, electric and a bass available each week. On some occasions local drummers have supplied us with their electric kits as well, so there is even something for the percussionists.
The Fiery Angel Open Mic Night is a great opportunity to listen to live bands, meet and collaborate with musicians, test out new material or just have a great musical experience. Start your weekend with us!
The Lighter Thieves play gigs in and around Cheltenham and have been for longer than we'd like to remember. Some of you may have seen us before but please don't hold this against us, you'll know that our gigs are always a giggle. ;-)
Some things you can expect from The Lighter Thieves....
- We don't use backing tapes or Drum Machines
- We will attempt pretty much any request we get - sometimes with hilarious results!!
- We always ALWAYS encourage crowd participation and sing-a-longs (especially when we forget the lyrics?!?)
- We don't pretend to be the coolest band in the world, we just want everyone to have some fun
